Does one bump, sore means you have herpes?

On august 18 I had unprotected vaginal sex with a woman named amy. She has a boyfriend. We been having sex off and on for a year. She went to get tested September 13 and she tested positive for both types of herpes, 1 and 2.

I have a girlfriend that I'm sleeping unprotected with for 4 months. I just found out recently that she maybe be prosittuing her self.

I got tested for herpes yesterday and  I'm nervous and waiting for my results . I got a igg test.

In august I did have one bump that I popped and it started leaking both pus and blood. It turned into a open sore after that. It was on my groin close to my penis . Lasted for almost a week

1) Yes.

2) Already discussed. Probably yes, but you need a 12 week result to be certain.

3) Maybe not until Nov. 18 (3 months).

But good grief. Read my and others' responses above and for goodness' sake concentrate this time. We have gone out of our way to reassure you that almost certainly you don't have herpes.

When one member of a couple has HSV2 and they have unprotected sex on a regular basis, the infection is transmitted an average of once for ever 1,000 exposures. After 10 years, in most couples the infection is never transmitted. That tells you how low your risk was.

Start thinking objectively and rationally and try to stop reacting emotionally. You've been making this a much bigger deal than it should be.

Okay thanks but I have a few questions

1. If the bump on my groin was herpes does that mean  that my test would've came out positive?

2. If Amy caught herpes from me on august 18 then would my test had shown positive if that's the case

3. If I caught herpes before august 18 from my girlfriend would it had came out positive today

Just need something to ease my mind until 12 weeks is here

Your doctor is correct, your test results are negative. However, at 7 weeks the test is probably around 80-90% accurate. For a conclusive test result, get tested again 12 weeks after the last exposure.

But even now, you can consider this virtually conclusive. And it proves for sure that your groin problem wasn't herpes.

I got my test results back today!!!!! I was negative for everything including herpes. Here's my results for the herpes igg test

Herpes type 1 Ab IgG   0.08

Herpes type 2 Ab IgG 0.25

The doctor says that means it's negative. I got tested at least 7 weeks after the exposure. Remember I had sex with her august 18th and got tested on October 10th.

Am I completely negative now or should I get tested again in the future? What's the chances that my test results changing from negative. Should I feel completely relieved now

"The one bump on my groin did turn into a open sore when I popped it"
Herpes wouldn't behave that way.  Trust me on this: there is simply no way that herpes causes a large bump that drains pus and blood. Never, no way, no how! If your herpes test is positive, it means you have an asymptomatic infection, with some other cause for the groin problem.

As already said, it is pointless to specuate whether you are infected or who infected whom. Wait for the test result and we'll take it from there.

I do plan on getting tested for all stds. The thing that scares me is that the one bump on my groin did turn into a open sore when I popped it.  Like I said in the other pus was coming out. The next day I popped it again and blood started coming out of it and it turned into a open sore. I'm afraid that might be herpes.

Another thing me and Amy had sex august 18. She got tested on September 13 which is not a full month. Could she have tested positive that quick if I gave it to her

"Could my one bump/open been a herpes breakout?"  Almost certainly not. See my reply above.

Beyond that, Fleetwood20 is exactly right:  There's no point in speculating when the answer will soon be available. Your test results will give much more information than anything we can say.

Well the father in me has to be blunt. The two of you need to wise up about STDs and both go and get tested observing the right window periods. The serious STDs will often have no symptoms at all until it is too late in terms of your fertility for example.

Whether or not you had a pimple may not be related to whether you are infected with herpes or not. It is possible to be infected without symptoms appearing, particularly if you have an existing HSV1 infection.

There is little point talking about chances after the event, only before. The answer is either you were infected or not and it is best to determine which.

Ok but can I ask you guys this. Could my one bump/open  been a herpes breakout? Is it possible for a person to have one bump/ sore for a first breakout of herpes?if so what's the chances

I did get a hiv rapid test recently and that was negative. I'm just scared and nervous about herpes right now.

Amy said her boyfriend doesn't seem too upset about the situation. She said the last time they had sex was the same day she told him she was diagnosed with both types of herpes. She said he had unprotected sex with her cause he seen how hurt she was and how much she was crying

My girlfriend doesn't seem too upset about it either. She was upset when I first told her but continues to have unprotected sex with me even after I explained the situation to her

I agree with Howard you need to start testing for all STDs and keep monogamous with unprotected sex or cover up every time otherwise.

All doctors are different, many won't include herpes when asked for STD testing, but some will. Sometimes the wrong tests are applied, such as IgM or PCR on blood.

Results should only be a few days, a week tops in most circumstances.

Remember that you need 12 weeks after the last sexual contact to be conclusive about the test result.

Amy said she got a blood test. She didn't say if it was Igg. She said when her GYN Doctor did her bloodwork they tested her for everything. The only thing she tested positive for was both types of herpes.

A question I have is do GYN normally test women for herpes when they get bloodwork done or do they have to request it?

I also been having off and on genital itching for months. I had some kind of cut/bump inside my bottom lip a few weeks ago but it disappeared in 2-3 days ago.

Amy said she hasn't had any sores or anything in her mouth or vagina area.

My girlfriend had a bump on her inner thigh a few months ago but she claimed it was a razor bump from shaving. I pressed on the bump and it didn't hurt her

I'm really nervous right now. When should my results be back

This is certainly a high risk situation for all concerned, and not just for herpes but for all STDs. I count at least 5 known people in this sexual network:  you, both your partners, and each of them with at least one more partner. It's fair to assume that some or all of these also have still other partners. And it also seems nobody is using condoms!

Your symptoms in August weren't herpes, which doesn't produce pus and blood and rarely occurs in the groin. Probably that was a pimple, boil, or something along those lines. However, you certainly could have herpes and I agree it was wise for you to be tested for it; please return to let us know the results (including the exact test done and the numbers for both HSV1 and HSV2).

Finally, if not already done, you and both your partners should see your doctors or a clinic to be tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV.

What were Amy's test results for HSV1 and HSV2? I assume she had IgG but would need a strong positive to be sure of HSV2.

Your one bump does not sound like a herpes lesion. On its own, there is no reason to suspect that you have HSV2, but nor does it rule out the possibility.

If you are ceasing sexual activity with both these women then after 12 weeks testing would be conclusive. Not enough time has passed since the last sexual encounter for your current test.

If you are going to continue to have relations with your girlfriend and herpes is of concern, then you would both need to test, waiting 12 weeks after each of your last other partners and compare notes.
