Exposed to Herpes 1 - Would Taking Acyclovir As Prophylaxy Help If I Act Quickly?
First of all, thank you for reading my question. I have conducted research but didn't find information from a credible source, the topic seems relatively tricky.
I remember reading something along the lines of *if you've been exposed to herpes and take Acyclovir within the first few days after being exposed, you might prevent the virus from making itself comfortable in your body and staying there*. Is this true?
My situation is as follows. I have kissed a girl on the lips
. According to her, it only appeared that night. It's clear to me that the virus has entered my body (it's highly unlikely that it hasn't after French kissing a person with a herpes blister) and I'm wondering if what I've read on the other (less credible) website is true.
If you take Acyclovir (or something else) within the first few days after being exposed (and confident that you've been infected), can you prevent the virus from making itself comfortable in your body and staying there? If so, do you recommend Acyclovir or another solution?
Thanks a lot for the prompt response Grace. Nope, I haven't been tested and I don't remember having any symptoms in the past. So I either don't have it or I do but with very mild symptoms I guess.
If this was indeed my first exposure to the virus, should I be expecting symptoms to appear after a few days?
She says her blister appeared that very night and we stopped kissing after she noticed it but since there was a lot of French kissing involved earlier that night, do you think there is a possibility that the virus wasn't transmitted?
of course there's a chance it wasn't transmitted. it really is as much about bad luck as anything.
most folks who have hsv1 orally aren't getting obvious cold sores to know it. statistically 1 out of every 2-3 people you've kissed in a lifetime has had it.
