False Negative

About a decade ago I thought I contracted genital herpes. Had a rash on the genital and Buttocks area and it hurt to sit down for a couple weeks. I showed it to my GP and he said it looked like rash, but didn’t do any testing. But for some reason I thought I had it. Couldn’t be convinced otherwise. Went away after a few weeks. Every once and a while i’d get some itching at the back of my scrotum and just figured I was having mild outbreak. Years have gone by with no itching at all.
I recently got my result back from roger Williams University was even having some itching then.
And both HSV 1 & 2 are negative.
HSVM Negative
HSVG2 Negative
HSVG1 Negative
My question what is the possibility of a false negative?
Most of what I’ve read is that a false negative is usually because the test was done too early or a Positive HSV1 can confuse the results of HSV2.

negative results don't need numeric results reported.  Knowing they are negative is all you need to know.

odds are you really don't have genital herpes. Be seen every time you have genital symptoms to try to get to the bottom of things.

Yes regular partner and the last several months no partner at all (divorcing).  Was tested several months after she left an that is also enough time.
I also found it strange that there were no numbers. I figured it was igG and because of the capital G on the end of HSVG1 and HSVG2. And the HSVM for igM.
Definitely will have to call the lab just to check. Itchy ness could also be partly stress didn't really kick in till wife left.

Itching alone is not a symptom of herpes, but it is typical of a fungal infection, especially on the scrotom. Did your doctor ever test for yeast or bacteria? You should be seen when you are symptomatic to be tested for those - no reason to think herpes. See a dermatologist if your regular doctor won't do a swab/scraping to test you.

Was your testing an IgG test for both HSV1 and 2? No numeric results?

As to timing - it's been 10 years, so more than enough time - it only takes about 3 months from your last exposure typically for an accurate IgG result.

Do you have a regular partner? Have they been tested to know their own herpes status?
