False positive????

My girl friend recently came back from her gynecologist and after a week they called and told her she tested positive for herpes. She claims she didn't have any symptoms her Dr. Told her that she can be asymptomatic and still have herpes. I soon went to my Dr and told him about my girlfriends test results and told him its been three and a half weeks since we last had sex and I am worried. My Dr. asked me if I had any blisters or pain, abnormal fatigue which I answered no, he says that her test shows she had herpes in the past and it was most likely a false positive. Meaning she had herpes 1 and not herpes 2. My girl friend is going to get tested again in six weeks. I've read a lot of medical sites and all of them say that you will show signs of herpes a few weeks after getting it and I never had any signs at all. Mt Dr. also said that if I took a blood test all it would prove is that I had herpes in the past and that it isn't herpes 2. Could someone please help me?.

You're right I wrote it down wrong, I had a cold sore out break yesterday and freaked out rushed to see a Dr. and he told me that the lab results and the cold sores prove that I do have herpes 1 but not 2. And since my test was IGG, I should relax and stop worrying. My IGG test came back as the following hsv2 IGG 5.00 (abn) index.

please recheck your results to see if it was hsv2 igg < .9    you posted greater than and typically they don't report results like that.

most folks will test + for hsv1 whether they can recall a history of cold sores or not.  it's very common in adults.

At this point your gf should get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what her status is since it seems to be questionable as to how she was tested originally.

I just got my lab results back and they say the following "HSV 2 IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB .>0.90 INDEX. Hepres type 1 IGG antibody titer is positive----positive for expossure to the virus sometimes in your life. I read and re-read it and I still son't understand what that means, I'll be honest I am a hypochondriac and I'm scared stiff.

Actually what happened was that my girl friend went to find out why she hasn't had her period in two months and had her blood drawn, It wasn't a specific std test. I went to see my Dr. and he told me that since is wasn't a test designed for std testing all it proved was that she had herpes 1 at one time. And since I have never had a break out he told me with all honesty that he wouldn't get tested but I could if I wanted to. I have researched everything I could find on Doctor forums about herpes and I don't have any of the symptoms (blisters, ulcer, fatigue, rashes), I do have jock itch but it isn't swelling but that only because I had to buy a cheap soap to wash my self with when I shower and it dries my skin.

Have your girlfriend get her actual test results (which test it was/numeric values) and post them here for us to help you both with.
