False positive

I am 32 and was just told I have herpes. I have been married for 7 years so I have been with the same man for 9 years. I was tested 10 years ago n told no stds. So they diagnosed me with vulvadynia. So I have been going thru therapy for it for all these years. I get periods of itching n burning but no type of bumps or sores or anything. However, a few weeks ago I started getting small cuts in the creases of my labia. My mother had the same thing when she was my same age so thot nothing of it until I saw someone had on the net that they had these cuts and had herpes. So I asked to be tested. They called me and said I have type 2. I don't know how this happened. I did have a few partners b4 my husband but don't think it was from them or my husband. Could the test be wrong? Was it herpes n not vulvadynia all along. So confused and upset. Please help.

if your kids had contracted hsv2 from you during birth, they would've been noticeably ill within a few days or weeks of birth. no reason for worry at this point!

lesion cultures look for actual herpes virus. they have a high false negative rate, not  a high false positive rate. as I said, odds are your genital skin issues aren't really related to the herpes and the lesion culture picked up on shedding which can happen with any "trauma" to the genital skin.

Do u think there is a possibility that the test was wrong? Or are these cuts a symptom of herpes. Bc ive read many forums where girls have these cuts and not herpes. But I do have periods of itching and burning. It's just bizarre to me that my husband and I have no blisters.

Also I've had 2 babies but never knew I had anything. Is there a chance they could have something?

your husband will need to repeat his herpes testing. it's been a long time and even if he did have herpes testing 10 years ago, it's time to get an idea of what his status is now.

It was a swab test that she rubbed on the cut. And all I know is that they called me and said herpes type 2.  My husband also was tested for stds back then too. Not sure if for herpes though. Was told he didn't have anything. He has not gone to a dr since then. He has never had any bumps or sores of any kind either.

odds are you have multiple things going on to be honest.  it's also likely that you weren't tested properly for herpes 10 years ago.

it was a lesion culture /swab that came back as hsv2+ correct?

has your partner been tested yet to know their status?

Cuts in the skin can be due to many things. If you have hsv2 too, not unusual for the cuts in the skin to trigger shedding that was picked up on with the swab. You probably have multiple issues from the sounds of your post on std and you and your gyn will have to work together to get to the bottom of things. Daily suppressive therapy to keep the herpes under control is a good idea and also if you aren't already using topical estrogen, a good idea to try that for a few months for the skin cuts.
