Could I have contracted cold sores?

So I kissed someone (french kissing) who had a cold sore that started 13 days ago. There were no more visible signs of it over the last 5 days (that i could see!) however he told me that he had covered the red mark with makeup/his facial hair (he has dark stubble so it could have concealed it) and that there was still a mark there, however I did not notice it, so I am not sure if the sore was still contagious. I have never had a cold sore in my life and do not believe I have ever come into contact with one (i have kissed only about 6 people in my life), so now I am worried that I will have contracted it. Please could you let me know the chances of me developing cold sores and if there is anything I can do to prevent me having any outbreaks?

Thanks for your help.

Why would you feel awful to have cold sores? 70-90% of people carry the virus.

Are you sure you do not carry the HSV1 virus already? Absence of any recollection of cold sores does not mean you do not have the virus.

Next, if you were infected, you'd know it! The lesions are likely to be quite bad upon initial infection.

In this case, the cold sore had healed so there was not really any elevated chance of infection. There is a low level of background risk in any kissing with a person with HSV1, but a very, very low chance per kiss!

I think it's very unlikely that I already had HSV1. I only kissed him today so I think it can take up to 20 days for an outbreak to appear. Also i read online that if the cold sore is not completely healed then it is still contagious. I'm just really worried about it as I have low confidence so if i get cold sores I'm gonna feel so awful :(
