I believe you most certainly have HSV 2 infection. You don't need symptoms to have herpes; about 80% of those with HSV 2 infection say they don't have symptoms of herpes, but you can transmit the virus to others, even if you have no symptoms. There is not time when you can say, today, I know I will not transmit herpes to a partner. It would be wise to always use condoms and go on suppressive therapy to reduce the risk of infecting others.

Terri,
I wanted to make sure you received my last post, also because my symptoms were so minor and almost unnoticeable how do I know when it safe or not to have sexual contact with a condom?
I meant urgent care not primary care, I'm still trying to locate a primary care doctor to see.
Also wanted to mention that the primary care Doc put me on Valacyclovir HCL 1 for 10 days.
For the HSV 1 - <0.91 for HSV 2 - 6.22
I went to a urgent care doctor right after getting the result and they said visual they can not say I have a genital infection because there are no real sores but i could still have it because herpes can be real mild in a lot of people (so I am not sure if I have it genitally but assume I have it at least orally since I have had cold sores before and tested negative for 1). At this point I am in the process of selecting a primary care physician so I can be treated for HSV 2. Please let me know if you think I should retest but with such a high number for 2 I was thinking its pretty confirmed. Also yes I did have partners before my ex, throughout late high school and college (most not all but about 98% were protected)! I have been have a really tough time with this, I can't seem to stop sobbing like a little girl!
Hold on. Tell me the numeric value of your positive HSV 2 test. It has something called an index value associated with it. Let's double check that number to be certain that you don't need a confirmatory test. Have you had other partners in your life prior to your wife?
Can you do this for me?
Terri
Just an update, I just received test results and was dealt a heavy blow, I was told that I tested negative for 1 but positive for 2. I was told that I already have antibodies and that means I had it before the encounter with her. I just so lost I don't know what to say! The only I have had sex with in the last 15 years is my ex and I never had any symptoms! Plus I was expecting to test positive for 1 due to the fact I have had cold sores before. Is it possible this whole time me and my ex have had cold sores and thought they were type one and actually had type 2? And could they have spread to the genitals via oral sex on each other? I'm going to get on daily meds an hope I can find a way to deal with this! Right now I need some alcohol a dark room and a good cry!
Thanks Terri,
Thanks Terri that is a lot of help. I'm still a little worried though because the bumps look like little pinholes now (no blistering, discharge, or redness and there is slight irritation when rubbing against underwear) and Im not sure what else it could be. I have only had sex with ex-wife a and we have been divorced for 3 years, is it possible that i could of contracted it years ago and didn't know it from her or is it more likely that due to anxiety I over examined my self causing irritation and the area to look like this? should have my results on Monday, I will let you know what they are.
I'm so sorry you are having a hard time with the encounter.
I think your experience presents virtually no risk for acquiring herpes from this person. You need a lot more direct contact to contract herpes than the contact that you had. Its fine that you got tested to show that you are negative but if you have HSV 2, by any chance, I seriously doubt that you contracted it during this encounter.
Let me know if you have any questions about your test results.
Terri
