Did I give my niece HSV 2

I just got diagnosed with HSV 2 11/2 and I've been through the loop of emotions, depression, anger, sadness, some acceptance and some denial.  I am trying to be really careful around my niece because she is only 6 weeks old.  I make sure to wash my hands after using the bathroom and am careful when I touch her.  She has had small yellow bumps all over the body, the colonies are individual and she doesn't have a fever.  From what I looked up so far, if anyone is experiencing outbreaks, they would be in pain and the vesicles progress from small to fluid filled and then scab over.  She has not had any abnormal crying or fever can from what I have looked up, the bumps look like erythema (new born acne).  Can someone please give me some advice

To confirm that you actually have herpes and suggest how recent or otherwise the infection is. You may need this depending on how your partner's results go.

The big question then is was it an IgG test for HSV2 and what were the numbers?

You can rest easy. You received your genital HSV2 from sexual contact as an adult right? That is exactly how it happens. Children do not get infected with HSV2 in any normal circumstances.

Did you have a blood test at the time of the sores appearing? What sexual contact did you have in the week leading into the sores appearing?

I am sure I got it from sexual contact, the guy in question will get a test this weekend and is convicned that it will come up negative.  I slept with him late sept and the sores appeared late oct.  I read that incubation period is 2-20 days so im sure its him.
I haven't been with one since late sept. and the blood test was done when the sores were in their healing period.

Just your genitals. You are only infectious to sexual partners. No one else is at risk.

thank you.  I'm just scared I guess.  It's bad enough finding out about it just a few days ago but also to have infected someone so young and innocent would be my worst nightmare

The only precaution you need take is to keep cold sores away from the baby. An excessive precaution would be not to let your lips touch baby. That's it, you will not infect the baby.

How were you diagnosed with HSV?

I don't have any cold sores.  My doc told me it was a blood test and I have the HSV 2 antibodies reaction.  I had a breakout on my gentiles for about a week, itchy and painful.  The doc said that I dont have the oral herpes and everything I have read states that regardless of breakouts, the virus is shedding all the times.  But i guess im just wondering if i shed from all parts of my body (which would seem like I would pretty much infect anyone I come in contact with) or just my genitals
