Found out i have herpes type 1

So i found today i have herpes type 1, I dont know when i got it to be honest. My past isnt the best, and i have a son im now trying to take care of. I have to tell my friend who i had sex with two weeks ago, that i have herpes one. I don't know how that will play out. I'm still unsure of all the facts with this. Can anyone tell me what having herpes type 1 is like to live with? I'm scared. I'm hurting. And ashamed.
