Genital HSV 1 positive and need more information

I am 19 years old and have just been diagnosed with genital HSV 1. I noticed a couple of lesions down south which were itchy and not really painful. I went to my family doctor who said it kind of looked like herpies but she didnt think it was since it was just two bumps she said initial outbreaks are extreme and painful. Due to lack of answers i went to a walk in clinic where the doctor said it definately didnt look like herpes that it was heat rash and she swabbed the bump. A week later I get a phone call saying that I am positive for genital HSV 1. My family doctor told me theres no difference between HSV 1 and HSV 2 but after reading on the internet im noticing that there seems to be noticeable differences.

1) is there a difference between genital hsv 1 and hsv 2 and what are these differences
2) does anyone have a similar experience to me ?
3) are there any treatments that are hsv 1 specific or is treatment all the same?
4) does anyone with genital hsv 1 notice that a healthy diet has worked for them?
5) what are the odds of my hsv-1 culture being a false?

I have only had my "first outbreak" which to me seemed merely like a rash. does this mean that will be the worst that this will ever get?

6) ALSO.. does anyone know how long this can remain dormant in your system? how long ago could i have caught this?

Im hoping and praying i never have a recurrence.. what are the odds of hsv 1 genital having recurrences????

just err on the side of caution and anytime you have anything going on genitally, avoid sex with your partner. He has significant protection against contracting hsv1 genitally but not 100% so it's best to just use some common sense about it.

less than 10% of all genital hsv1 infections are transmitted from genital to genital sex. it's almost always transmitted from oral sex.

you can treat your recurrences of hsv1 genitally with antivirals. No reason to take daily suppressive therapy since your partner already has hsv1 and also since hsv1 genitally tends not to reoccur very often.

1. Receiving oral sex from someone who has HSV1 orally (with or without cold sores present) is the most common way it is acquired. HSV1 sheds more frequently orally so therefore it is passed more easily that way.

2. According to Dr. HHH here, in his 30+ years practice he has never seen HSV1 genital infection that was acquired by genital to genital contact. It is extremely rare but not impossible.

3. Someone with oral HSV will not have outbreaks gentially, only orally. They also cannot get HSV1 gentially from you. You cannot re infect someone. Their body has antibodies built up.

4. Even if your partner had NO cold sores present, he can (and did) pass his HSV1 to you. The virus sheds from the place of infection (outbreak area) even when no cold sores are present. Shedding HSV1 gentially is far less.

5. I have read posts from Grace and Doctored here that supressive medications are not useful for HSV1 since it doesn't shed often.

Hopefully Grace will come in with her expertise soon!

Take a look at my Journal as I have a link to the thread where I ask the Doctors similar question!

is oral sex the only way you can receive this? is genital to genital transmission rare?
i do have a regular partner and they have not experienced any genital sores ever in their life but do get cold sores on their mouth the odd time. also my exe boyfriend had cold sores on his mouth and would give me oral sex.

How long could this have remained dormant in my body for?

Also if my current boyfriend has cold sores on his mouth does this mean that he will not catch this genitally since he has antibodies against the virus/an infection already.

Will zovirax help with hsv 1?
my current partner has been treated for the chlamydia yes

there is quite a bit of info on hsv1 genitally in the free herpes handbook - www.westoverheights.com

hard to tell if this is a newly acquired hsv1 infection or just your first obvious recurrence of a prior one. have you received oral sex in the last 1-3 weeks prior to symptoms?

do you have a regular partner? if you do, have they had herpes and std testing done yet?

cortisone cream will initially make herpes better than if you continue to use it will trigger it to reoccur. I'd certainly stop its use at this time. did you treat the yeast properly?

you had a + lesion culture for hsv1. You have hsv1 genitally.

no, diet makes no difference with genital herpes.

also when i went to the walk in clinic before i was swabbed the doctor told me i had a yeast infection and told me to put cortisone cream on the bumps.
The cortisone cream and bumps cleared in like a day.. which is unusual for herpies since i had heard cortisone cream makes it worse!?!?

after all the tests came back along with the news of being hsv 1 positive i also found out i was positive for chlamydia!!!

could this rash and the chlamydia have anything to do wit eachother?
is this definitely genital hsv 1 ??

where can i find out studies and information on GENITAL hsv 1. everything i see is on genital hsv 2.
