Genital herpes transmission through objects (soap, towel...)

Hello, I have another question concerning genital herpes transmission. I hope you can help me. : )

I am on valacyclovir 500mg daily. I haven't had an outbreak for 3 months so there are no sores on me.

Here is my question :

Could I pass the virus to someone who inadvertantly used the same soap and towel I used hours before ? I have no sores on my body.

I'm worried because a family member did that...

Thank you for your time. : )

I have had the same fear over the years... You are not alone... I have been living with herpes for 12 yrs and my son has never caught it... Pray you find some peace of mind with this... You are not alone... :)

@Grace

Thank you so much for your response in my thread. This paranoia/obsession with NOT transmitting this thing to other people I have is making my life miserable at the moment...I don't what I'd do if it would happen...: (

this is not a risk for the person involved.

we call it a sexually transmitted infection for good reason - it takes sexual/intimate contact to transmit it.

no, there are no documented cases of transmission through surfaces or towels.

Ok, I will keep all future questions in this thread.

@Grace (if you read this):

The towel wasn't completely dry. I'd say just a little dit damp. It had been hanging on the shower curtain pole for hours.

I'm worried sick I might spread this through indirect contact to my children. Sometimes, I feel I shoudn't even come in contact with them.

From what I've read I shouldn't worry too much about this, even from towels. But I can't help it. : (

Are there documented cases of indirect transmission to children of this virus  ?? I'm going crazy...

You should keep all future questions in this thread.  We cover this in the read before posting.

Soap no.  The towl that is a different story.  Because towls stay wet/warm they can sometimes let the virus live a little longer then they would under normal circumstances.  It would be best not to share towls.  If the towel was completely dry then the virus couldn't live.

It is always best practice to use a seperate towl for each person in the future.
