Getting tested tomorrow

I hope grace or someone throws there 2 cents in on this one. I had unprotected sex with a "friend" a few weeks ago. She didn't tell me till after it was too late for me to make the decision but basically she said she had genital herpes, but reassured me that I had "nothing to worry about", "You won't get it" etc etc and I've questioned her a few times since about it. Shes had it for 19 yrs. I dont know if shes on anything for it or not. I've been "inspecting" myself since she told me and noticed some very small small bumps that have not changed characteristics ( I may have had them before she told me and didnt realize). They're on the underside of my penis and two or three on the left side of the shaft as well, one being maybe 1/16th of an inch at the most.  They're not sore, cant really even feel them, no symptoms such as fever, swollen lymphs no painful urination etc., they're just there. I've been obsessive about it and getting anxiety. Could anyone esle tell me what this could be someone in my last post said it could be sebaceous cysts?  Thats question one :) and second when I go tomorrow what test should I request, a swab? And if the dr says no it does not look like hsv, should I still say well I'd like to be tested and what test should I request at that point?

Aunti, thank you for your information and advice. The sebaceous may be it, I hope so and hope not to have the genital hsv. And yes I probably am worrying too much I talked to her again today and she was trying to reassure me once again that I'm fine and called me a hypocondriac but nevertheless I will still be seeing the dr. tomorrow but I am much more confident now. Thank you again.

Google fordyce spots to see if that fits with what you have.  Those are the sebaceous glands that were mentioned earlier.  (Since you already have a thread going, you should pick one and keep all your questions to that thread.  Read the posting tips for more info on that.)

You should ask for a type specific IgG blood test, as bumps can't be cultured, unless your doctor can do a PCR swab, and most don't have the supplies for that.

Keep in mind that it can take 4 months to show positive, so if this test is negative, it doesn't mean you didn't get it.  Since its only been a couple of weeks, if your test is positive now, you had it before you were with this woman.

However, and this is important, chances are really very slim that you got it.  If you had a long term relationship with her, your chances of getting it are about 4% a year.  Getting it from a one time encounter from someone who didn't have an outbreak is not likely at all, and you are worrying too much.

Also remember that 1 in 4 women have hsv2, and 90% of them don't know they have it, so statistically, you have already been with someone who has it and just didn't know to tell you.
