Glycyrrhizinic acid preps

I'm sure I have genital herpes ( a dime size ulcerated area next to my vulva ). In looking around for some relief til I can be seen by a Dr, I came across a product that contains glycyrrhizinic acid. According to wiki (yeah I know lol) it actually STOPS the herpes virus.

"Glycyrrhizin... inhibits the growth of several DNA and RNA viruses, inactivating herpes simplex virus particles irreversibly.[8]"

I found some products that contain the compound but I can't find any information on dosing, so I hesitate to buy anything til I get some solid info.

My story is the 1st week in Feb 2011 I had (what I thought was) a horrible yeast infection due to antibiotic use. During that time I developed this little sore next to my vagina. I assumed it was due to the yeast infection because it was just a little cut/crack. Now I'm sure it was the 1st herpes outbreak as Ive never had any type of sore on my vagina. Last week, I worked out a bit more than usual and over the next few days I started to feel very achy, especially my legs. I thought it was due to running on the treadmill. Then on Mar 4th I noticed the little irritated spot I noticed in Feb on my vulva was tender.I never noticed a blister but the ulcer is pink, shallow and extremely painful. There isn't anything else on my vagina, no other spots or irritation. And I had one heck of a sore throat, that was better a few days ago.

Curiously though, I am extremely prone to HSV1 OB on my mouth (at least 4-5 OB a year) my period is the worst culprit but it seems like ANYTHING will trigger it. I haven't had an oral OB since Oct, thats one of the reasons I didn't tie my genital symptoms to herpes til now. I was sure if I had a genital OB I would get one on my lips as well.

Anyway. My main question was about the Glycyrrhizinic acid, if anyone had used Glizigen Cream (formerly known as Herpigen) or another product with this acid? Thanks in advance,

Robin

I'm checking on the accuracy of the testing you used at home but no matter what, you tested far too early to get accurate test results anyways. you need to wait months for the blood testing, not days or a few weeks.

you really still have no idea what is going on or whether you have genital herpes or not. At this point should you get a recurrence of symptoms, be seen promptly for a lesion culture and typing.

I have not heard of this test.  But taking a test for HSV without 3 months passing from your last sexual encounter will not give you an accurate result.  You have to wait at least 3 months for an accurate test.  Using this test here I have no idea about though.  I will let grace answer that.

I ordered the test kit online. It says Home Bio Test Rapid HSV1/2. The company name is Oral-HIV-Tests.

"The HSV-1/2 Rapid Test is a dual unit, membrane-based immunoassay for the qualitative determination, either in heparinized capillary whole blood taken by fingerstick or in serum, of circulating IgG antibodies specific for herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), which arise as a result of infection with HSV-1 or HSV-2."

I had sex every day before symptoms began on Mar 4th, but I have several partners. I have no idea of their hsv status. Thats why I started my post by saying I'm certain I have hsv. I've accepted this and I'm asking specific questions.

The irritated spot never was a blister (at least not that I noticed, and I shave every other day) the area never tingled or itched. As so many sites mention I thought it was something else. When I went to the STD clinic they said so many people have hsv they don't bother testing for it. How can we be responsible when you can't even get an affordable test for at least hsv2? This is the real reason its so prevalent. I got STD testing in Dec and I assumed they would test for everything, which I have since discovered they don't. I went back yesterday (the 15th) to see if they would test me specifically for hsv, the clerk actually laughed at me when I asked.

I'm not lucky enough to have health insurance and I don't qualify for any type of assistance. I have to pay for all these tests out of pocket. The STD clinic is the only affordable place. $25 for testing and treatment. Urgent care is $95 to just see the Dr, you have to pay extra for labwork. The online tests were attractive to me because they cost $50.

I'm not sure what herpes testing you had done.

even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections - you know you have hsv1 orally so no reason to assume otherwise ( not that you seemed to be thinking otherwise ).

it would've been most helpful to have been seen when you had active symptoms present.  when did you last have sex prior to your genital symptoms? do you have a regular partner and if so, have they  had herpes igg blood testing to know their own status?

Question for medhelp/Grace: is Acyclovir effective as a prophylactic? If a hsv negative person were to take a daily dose of Acyclovir is it possible to prevent the transmission of hsv? The experts can stop reading now :)

I'm experiencing a frustrating turn of events.

I ordered an hsv test kit online (its a little cartridge thingy). The hsv2 test turned up negative, but the hsv1 test was negative too. That is impossible, I definitely have hsv1 due to my periodic oral OB's.

I called my local STD clinic and asked about hsv testing but they don't offer it!! This is the ONLY STD clinic in my area. Next I went to an urgent care clinic and they said they offer the blood test but the lab work cost is prohibitive for me. Just to see the doc is $95. I'm trying to do the right thing here and its so difficult. The closest Planned Parenthood is 250 miles away.

I've been reading up on hsv2. I was scared by the pics online til I started looking for "mild" herpes pics, (since I only had the one dime size irritated spot, which btw never turned into a scab, it just healed). I couldn't find any. The reason the bad herpes pics make it online is because they ARE so notable. I don't know if this may help anyone else, but it really made a difference to me.

Also, I joined an STD dating site. As I was looking around I decided to look at the other ladies' profiles, curious as to what they say. And there are TONS of people on these sites. Attractive, young, vibrant, sexy. All at ease with their status and moving on with their lives. Very reassuring :)

I'm not quite sure what nerve pain would feel like. But I don't have any pain in my legs or butt at present.

The end of Feb til the 2nd I had sore legs (especially my knees), but I had been running 3 miles a day instead of my normal 1, thats why I thought they were sore. March 3rd I had a few hours where I didn't feel well, thought I had the flu thats when my sore throat started. I felt better later that day though and my sore throat was gone by Mar 8th.

I'm kinda depressed and I stopped working out altogether :(

No I haven't. But after reading a few other posts, I'm well beyond the 24-48hr of onset of symptoms. This episode began last Friday. I don't know if I should even go to the Dr now. The lesion hasn't crusted over though, its still raw and tender. Could a Dr still give a visual diagnosis?

Ive never had a herpes test, never had a reason to. I know I have HSV1, I had my first oral OB at age 4 and I get cold sores pretty often, Ive never had a genital symptom.

FYI, don't try the tea bag idea. That home remedy is quite painful and awkward to use.
