No, I don't use herpes pictures for reference, as everyone's symptoms are a little different. If you want to see pictures, google it, but remember that the pictures you will see are the worse case scenarios. I've had herpes for 3 years, and haven't ever had symptoms like they show in the pictures.
There is nothing valid about that article, and as we don't get into morality on this site, I won't discuss it any further.
Aj
Do you have any links to pictures of Herpes symptoms? That would be useful.
The article does give a valid perspective, i was particulary interested in the fact that no civilisation has ever existed 3 generations after they gave up on monogamous married relationships, which includes the Greek and Roman empires. Would be interesting to read that book.

Herpes has always been more prevalent than HIV. Less than 1% of the population has HIV, and about 20-25% of the population has hsv2.
In recent years, hsv2 infections are actually declining, while genital hsv1 infections are increasing.
Your article seems dated - I couldn't find a reference that was less than 10 years old. We also don't get into morality judgments here. Herpes has been around since at least the Greek and Roman empires, so I don't think it has much to do with morality or society's slip into the abyss of sin or whatever that article wants to say.
Sexually transmitted diseases are infections, just like strep throat, the flu, a cold, etc. They aren't moral or value statements about a person. I have herpes. I got it in a long term, monogamous, serious relationship. That makes me no different than someone who got it from a one night stand or casual sex partner, or someone who got it from a cheating spouse or a rape. Infections don't have the ability to judge, so they don't give a **** about who they infect.
Anyway, to answer your question, symptoms can be blisters, lesions, paper cut looking sores, itching, etc. Some people have no symptoms.
If you are concerned about herpes, ask your doctor for a type specific IgG blood test.
If your only point was to put this lousy article out there, fine. You did.
