HSV 1 & 2- Specific Ab, IgG

I am a little confused on my test results HSV 1 was a 4.80 high which means I have tested positive however I have never had an cold sore or anything like that. Could it be posible that I have genital HSV-1? The results for the HSV-2 <.91. The Doctor that ordered the tests was not helpful and rushed me out of the office and I was so upset about the results I could not even think about asking questions. Thank you

Well HSV-1 oral is typically what people with HSV-1 positive have.  You could have had this for years.  But really no reason to take medicine without symptoms really.

I have a lot of female problems so the doctor that I went to said I needed to be tested for it however I do have pain during sex but I have never had any sores either place.  My ex- husband does get cold sores and has since he was like 4 yrs old. Thank you for the website. The doctor didn't explain which one was postitive she just said that I had and to take some medicine.

most people who have hsv1 orally, don't get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected.   If you can't recall symptoms either orally or genitally, odds are your hsv1 is oral.   http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm   has terrific info on oral herpes for more information.

was there a particular reason why you got tested for herpes or was it just a routine screening?
