HSV 1 & 2 Test Results?

Dr.,
I recently received my test results for HSV 1 & 2.  The test was performed with HERPESELECT HSV Type Specific Assays that utilize HSV I Glycoprotein gG1 or HSV II gG2 recombinant antigens.

The results were -
HSV I IGG TYPE SPECIFIC AB @ 0.06
HSV II IGG TYPE SPECFIC AB @ 0.03
HERPES SIMPLEX IGM AB @ 0.40

The synopsis for the test was that I am NEGATIVE for the herpes virus.

My question is, why would I show ANY amount of antibodies to HSV 1 or 2 if I do not have either of them using the type specifc test?  Also, through research I see that the IgM test is almost useless, is there a reason why the IgM test would show a significantly higher result?  Thank you very much for your response, and I am sure I speak for many people when I say I really appreciate the service you provide on this website.

Thank you,
PH

You are negative. The reason you have a numeric result is because of the way the test is performed. It's referred to as background noise and is meaningless. You will never get a zero as a result.

the igm herpes test is a total waste of time and should've never been ordered on you in the first place so stop even looking at those results.

You're negative so why do you care what the numbers are? It has to do with the way the testing works.

Those numbers should be Arabic, not Roman, BTW.
