HSV-1 Constant Prodrome?

Hi,
I have been type tested for HSV and tested positive for HSV-1 only. If I've ever had an actual cold sore it was in my teens, I'm now 34. My question is that there is one spot on the vermillion border of my lip that constantly (almost everyday for the last 4 months) tingles, there is a slight burning sensation and it is red and irritated. Could I be constantly experiencing prodromal symptoms with no real outbreak? Could I constantly be shedding the virus? Is that possible?

I take a daily suppressive medication (1000mg valacyclovir) everyday because it has made me so paranoid. However, I'm still experiencing these symptoms. If it's not herpes, any idea of what it could be or what type of doctor I could see who can diagnose this?

Thanks so much for your help!

Ok, thanks so much! I didn't think it would last this long, but I wasn't sure if I was the one exception to the rule:)

no, herpes wouldn't cause constant symptoms for this long.

a dermatologist or an ENT specialist would be helpful if your regular provider is stumped.
