HSV 1 IgG Quant (herpselecet)

I had STD test for first time. my HSV 1/2  IGM came negative .18/.24 and my HSV 1/2 IgG came 4.8/.2 . I was told I tested positive on HSV 1 IgG.. I was in disbelieve. I'm not sure how I got it. Could it be the blood test wrong and I should go back and re-do another blood test. I don't know how long I have had it since this is fisrt time I have STD test done.. I never ever had symptoms and I'm not in any sexual relationship. What are my chances that the blood test is worng. The Dr.s office was even unproffesional , they didnt even inform me about this. I requested a copy of test to be mailed to me and I found out. When I called back to clarify bld test result they were like this is something not of a big deal... positive HSV ;( I feel sick and I wish I die now.. because my life is never the same again

Yes HSV is treatable.  I can't speak for your results as I am not trained.  However, look into making your own post to ask questions not someone elses.

Hi All,

I have given sample for HSV 1 and 2 Test, Here are the results;

HSV 1 --> 2.9 and HSV 2 --> 3.9

I am confused is it too high or common in most of them? Is HSV treatable or not? Does it causes any other illness or fitness. Please Please address the above ranges.

Thank you all and wish you will ;)

www.ashastd.org - look up the herpes info and read the oral herpes info there.

has your partner been tested yet? if not, they need tested to know what their status is.

You are not contagious 24/7/365 by no means. You are actually not actively shedding the virus far more than you are shedding it.  As was already said, hsv1 oral infections are incredibly common and not many of us make it to the old folks home without it. be educated on it for youa nd your partners.

Listen to your doctor: if there are no visible sores, you can't pass on the virus.  Also, just because you've never had any symptoms doesn't mean you don't have it; it just means you have a strong immune system.

Also, please don't inspect / touch / wash your lips too often, because in doing so you'll cause irritation.  Think about it; touch the same spot over and over again you will cause an irritation, like making a mosquito bite worse by constantly itching it.  Let the area be, and don't worry about it.  You are perfectly healthy.

Thank you for making me feel better. I wonder what is the differnece between HSV-1 IgG (Oral) and HSV-1 IgG genitally?  I think you meant saying HSV 2-IgG. So, arre you saying if I have HSV1IgG can't easily infect my partner especially I never had symptoms in or out my mouth... the Dr. said I was tested Positive for HSV 1 IgG (oral) and just not to kiss anybody when the virus is active where (having outbreaks, soars or blisters).. The problem I never encountered any ofthose symptomes and I don't even know how I got it :( how will I know the virus is active if I never ever seen any symptomes..  How to know not to infect my partner if I myself never seen any symptoms ... Thank you

Hey guys,

I hope I can contribute some helpful perspective.

Both of you really shouldn't be upset at contracting HSV-1 orally.  It is by far one of the most common viruses in the world.  As RPM stated, more than 80-90% of the world's population has or will contract the virus.  HSV-1 is not considered an STI when it affects the oral region (meaning mouth and lips).  HSV-1 can be transfered to the genital region via oral sex, however, in which case the HSV-1 virus causes genital blisters (a.k.a genital herpes).

Depending on your sexual history, if you've never had a suspect encounter where you think you could have contracted HSV-1 genitally, than it's more than likely you simply have oral cold sores.  Chances are if you haven't been sexually active for years, a virgin, or have always practiced safe sex, you stand little chance of having HSV-1 genitally.  Please don't think having cold sores has a stigma attached; practically everyone you have ever met and will ever meet will contract HSV-1 orally in their lifetime.

As for a romance life; oral HSV-1 will not affect it whatsoever.  In the case of genital HSV, however, it's best to consult your doctor and procure some literature regarding relationships and methods of coping with the infection and your sex life.

Also take into account that approximately 70% of Igg / Igm tests cause false negatives.  It is, however, very rare to have a false positive.  It is more than likely that if you have tested positive for HSV-1, than no amount of time will change that result.

Hi:

going through the same agony right now, but to put your test in perspective, about 90% of the population is positive for HSV-1.  There are only about 20% of carriers however that ever show symptoms, such as "cold sores" or "fever blisters" in or around the mouth, lips or gums.  Most people get the HSV-1 virus in childhood, so this is not necessarily an STD situation.

People can carry around this version of the virus for years (as well as the HSV-2 for that matter) and never show any symptoms.  This is one of the reasons it is not a reportable disease to the CDC - it is too common, and can be transferred by people or contacts that don't even have any idea that they are infected with it.

It is not routinely checked for before marriages, as other STD's are in most states. It is usually only tested for if there are symptoms present, and the patient requests such a test, or the doctor orders it after consulting with the patient.

HSV-2 on the other hand is usually (I believe not always the case) transferred in adulthood through sexual contact.  I would worry more if that one came back positive, but for HSV-1 to come back positive is actually quite common.

Lostmind,
Thank you for replying. I hope my test result is wrong. I will re-test and hope it comes out negative in 3 months. I read if it comes out below 3.5 it means false positive. Could Positive result turn to negative in 3 to 6 months? I just can't live with it. I'm 39 yrs. old and not sexually active, this is first time I take STD test ;( how could this happen I have HSV 1 ? Now I started dating this person not sure what to do. Maybe I just have to stay single the rest of my life and not share this information with anybody :(
