Your partner will need a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what her status is. Just because it's the first time she's noticed symptoms, odds are she's never been tested before to know her status before this so she has no idea if it's a newly acquired infection or just her first obvious recurrence of a prior infection. assume nothing at this point.

My partner did not have Herpes. When she had a outbreak a few weeks ago it was by her genitals. I did a lot of reading the next week and found out type 1 can also be in teh genitals. That's why I wanted to know if it was 1 or 2.
You can just get tested for hsv2 . You already know you have hsv1 from your history of cold sores which is why your provider ordering a non-type specific test on you was a total waste of time and money.
What triggered you to get tested?

Hi,
You need to get a type specific test as this is a combined test and is not going to accurately provide you the info you are looking for. Request a Herpes Select type specific IgG from your provider or clinic.
Is there any way of telling what type I have?
