can this be herpes?

my daughter and her significant other enjoy an active sex life.  after an out of town trip they were both sore and had some irritation of the genitals - at the base of the penis and the perianal area of her (hers were small and raised), i didn't see his.  they both cleared up within a few days.  the next weekend they traveled again and he reported soreness at the base of his penis.  she did not have any irritation.  he went to see his doctor "just in case" who has diagnoesed herpes (blood work is being done).  I just cannot believe that if it is herpes (1 or 2) that it would heal that rapidly; and 2) that while they have enjoyed oral sex - not with a cold sore (on the lips) but with small canker sores that that has caused the problem (which is what his doctor had said).  concerned mom.

odds are that neither of them have ever been tested for herpes before to know who has what. once they both know who has what, they'll have a little better idea of if this might be herpes or not.

meanwhile, the free herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource for them both. pass the link on to them to read through. also the  patient counseling video on the same site is also very helpful.

this has all JUST HAPPENED.  he saw his doctor today who said yep, it's herpes, let's do blood work to be sure....but he is completely healed up right now!  it's been two weeks since the first outbreak and he is completely healed up.  they did have oral sex when both had canker sores (not cold sorse on the lips) on their tongue and inner cheek and the doctor said - yep.  herpes.  she is making an appointment with her OB/GYN now though they have not been with anyone else and she was just recently checked for HPV with a cervical scraping and all was totally clear then.

has your daughter been tested yet to know her own herpes status? if not, she'll need a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what her status is.

was she also seen and had proper testing for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally too when she had symptoms?
