HSV-1 transfer?

Hello all, I've been reading this forum all morning.
I now believe I have oral HSV-1 (most people have been exposed right?) although I've never had an obvious outbreak (possibly when I was really young??)

I've just started seeing a girl that I've been out with a couple times. Last night we were out, I felt a slight tightness in my lip. Haven't had acne for a while, but thought it might be the starting of a pimple. Anyway I never gave it a second thought, and we continued kissing throughout the evening, and ended up with me giving her oral sex.

When i woke up this morning I have my first full-blown cold sore, hence the being up all morning reading these forums. I am a panicking and worried for this girl!! Going to the clinic in about half an hour, just thought I'd here some other opinions as well.

1) I'm guessing the "tightness" i felt was the tingle stage? And I think i remember reading that the tingle stage is the most contagious stage??

2) If she already had HSV-1 (and there is a decent % chance she had) then the chance of me giving her genital HSV-1 would be much lower, correct?

3) If I actually didn't have HSV-1 before, would I have gotten HSV-1 from her? (not really a big deal) OR maybe gotten HSV-2 from oral sex?  I dont think it would be HSV-2, as I felt the tightness before, and I trust that she would have mentioned it before.

4) How in the hell do you bring this up to a new partner??  "By the way, I had a contagious cold sore for our first sexual experience. You have to get tested for herpes now."

I am freaking out! Thanks for any help/advice anyone can give, and I'll update you when i get back from the clinic.

I know I have hsv1 forever cause I always get cold sores. I was wondering if you accidentally transfer hsv1 to the genitals is it still only hsv1 or does it get worse? I don't mind getting cold sores but i don't want to end up getting genital herpes.

My boyfriend got tested for HSV2 ... the doctors all say that the bcbiomedical clinics will not test people for HSV1 because it is so common. the only way that they test for it is if they have an actual sore or blister that they can swab.. which is how i found out that i have HSV1.. my boyfriend has never had a sore or blister... therefore.. it seems we are **** out of luck on finding out if he has it or not =(

It's most likely that your bf also has hsv1 and you were infected in both areas around the same time from him. Has he been tested yet?  Did you have  a lesion culture that said hsv1+?

I have a question.. i had my very first cold sore break out and did not know what it was at first. My boyfriend had kissed me and a bit later performed oral sex on me. I then 2 weeks later contracted HSV 1 on my genitals. is it possible that he just carried the virus down there from kissing me? or is is possible that he has hsv 1 and just has never had an out break?

If you transmitted hsv1 to her genital area , she'll have symptoms within 2-20 days.  Unless she gets obvious symptoms genitally, not really much she can do.

I had hoped to get into our sexual health clinic to talk with them about everything. Unfortunately they couldn't provide much help. And no appointments until June. They suggested that I go to a regular walk-in clinic for a prescription cream.

The walk-in clinic doctor gave me some anti-viral Valtrex and suggested any of the over the counter topical creams. Didn't have much to say about the situation, other than I'll have to just wait and see if she develops anything.

Which I guess is really all I can do. I'm away for the weekend and definetly not looking forward to having this conversation over the phone. If I have given her HSV-1, how long until we will know?

Going to the clinic is the right first step. You'll come home armed with more information to make talking to your gf easier about all of this.  Just give her a call tonight or ask her to come over and tell her the same way you've told us - she'll also have to get tested to know her own status too unless she can recall a history of cold sores. Once you both know who has what, it'll be easier to determine if she was even at risk or not.
