HSV 1 transmission

Hello,

Over the last few months I've had periodic sexual contact with a man who has both genital and oral HSV 1. He has not had a genital outbreak for 8 years.

He failed to disclose any of this information to me until yesterday. The sex has always been protected, although there may have been some brief external touching of genitals the first time I saw him - though he did not have any symptoms as far as I know.

I was tested negative for HSV 1 and 2 a few weeks ago - roughly a month after first potential exposure.

I know there are no hard and fast rules with HSV, but I'm wondering what approximate risk is like in a situation like this?

Thank you so much. Very worried.

Hi Life360. Thanks for the advice once again! He definitely had an HSV 1 outbreak genitally about 8 years ago. The sores were tested and came back positive for HSV 1. But as you said, I suppose if he had no symptoms there is not too much to worry about. Thank you!

Hi, first of all he might not have hsv1 in both areas. Those that do have it contacted it at the same time. Those with long standing infections would be basicly immune to contacting it in another area. So you would need to confirm how he knows he has it in both areas.
Bottom line is that if he did not have any sores at the time, your risk would be close to zero.
