Not Sure What To Do Now!

I was recently told from my partner that he slept with someone. He told me he used a condom but she told him later that she was infected with herpes. He suggested that we both get tested. I was tested and was upset to find that I tested positive for HSV 1 but negative for HSV 2. He tested negative for both HSV 1 & 2. Here are my results:

HSV 1/2 IGG, HerpesSelect Type Specific AB
HSV 1 IGG Type Specific AB  >5.00 H Out of Range
HSV 2 IGG Type Specific AB  0.16 In Range

My doctor told me that this positive result was most likely from childhood, before the age of 10. I have never had any symptoms, although my mother has a history of cold sores. He said I probably got it from her when I was a child.

But, I've never had a cold sore, fever blisters or vaginal sores. I asked if it was possible that I was infected during intercourse. He said that was unlikely.

I am so confused as to what I do now. How do I know when or if I can pass this on to my partner? Am I doomed for the rest of my life as far as kissing someone? Do I need to explain that I have tested positive for HSV 1? Please explain to me what I should and or shouldn't do? I have been so upset since I got the results last month, that I'm shutting down and keeping everyone at a distance.

If anyone can give me some advise, it would be great appreciated! Thanks!!!

http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  is a terrific site for more reading about oral herpes. It's incredibly common and most adults have it. You will never figure out when you got it and from whom most likely.
