The best thing to do is to know your own HSV status via blood test and having the doctor swab the bumps was good. The challenge is the length of time between their appreance and swab. If you get a repeat of symptoms while you are waiting for the results be seen within 24-48 hrs.
In this instance like asianslore said it is a coin toss to find out if you have HSV or not with the swabs. Bumps can be anything and bv could be the cause of the bumps. But you had a professional look you over and we can't fight that. The blood test will give you an idea. If it comes back negative and your culture test comes back positive then you know you had your first outbreak. If it comes back positive no telling if this a new infection or an old one.
Having your partner tested using a type specific igg blood test will help rule out things as well.
to answer you question, yes it can be true, but you wont know until u get your results. When you get your results post them here on this forum so we can help you determine if you have been tested properly (believe it or not many docs are in the dark about herpes). Make sure you ask the doc if she completed an IGM or IGG test for blood work. Specifically ask if you had a type specific test and get the values . for example the results should say, hsv +2- 2.5 IGG or <.90 or whatever the value is. That is important because the lower the value, the greater chance it can be a false positive if thats even the case.
Does your bf know his herpes status? keep us posted.
