I'm not sure if it's just a bruise or actual herpes. I've tried comparing it to the images online but I hear that must are a little more extreme in most cases.

No one can diagnose you from a pic, but it is definitely something you should get checked promptly. I don't know what it is, and I looked - but any time you have new symptoms, you should get it checked.
