Dear Dr. I have had chronic UC for 6 years, I researched and researched and spend almost $1000,000 in trying to find an answer to my dis-ease. I came across herpes zosters or HSV in the colon/rectum. I took valtrex, I think it was a 1000mg a day for a few days and I felt better but stopped because my doc said only try it for a short number of days. My GI thinks no way could I have HSV in my rectum or colon. She's not very open. She just says it's an autoimmune problem with me, period. I feel better when I take valtrex. How long can you take Valtrex for? I'm currently on Asacol and inflammatory reducer. Can you recommend a doctor in Michigan (preferably Northern part of the state) to see and get tested or recommend test that can be done. I already tested positive for 1 & 2 by blood. I have to be my own advocate and if I could counsole with you off this forum, I would be willing to do that too. I have bloody, skin like discharge and painful doesn't describe it half the time. I cry a lot on the toilet from the pain and blood. Now I have anal skin tags from the pressure, cramping, pain when I bm. It's always diarreah or very skinny stools and my body pushes it out and I can't control it. I really think its HSV Proctitis. It's bee a long 6 years, please help me if you can.
