Western Blot Test

Hi,

I took a HSV test that was positive for HSV 1 5.61 & HSV 2 1.67 back in Oct 10 and also a second test in Oct 11 with HSV 1 5.87 & HSV 2 1.87....I just got an Western Blot test taken in March 2012 and I am not sure of number but HSV 1 was positive and HSV 2 negative... In my mind I always thought that my positive HSV 2 reading was false however, my two previous test were positive. Since my western blot test shows negative 4 HSV2 and still positive for HSV 1 is it safe 2 say I don't need another HSV test or should I get another Western Blot test 2 b sure??

I was diagnosed 16 years ago with HSV2.  I've never had any type of outbreaks.  If and when I would get one bump, I would always go to the doctor, have the bump tested, and it would be tested and I was always negative.  My index was 4.04 recently for a blood test..but still no painful bumps, rashes,...ever..Can anyone help me? Will a western blot help?

we don't know exactly why false positives happen though they happen most frequently in folks who are also hsv1+.

no need to get the test results that they read to you.

the Wb is the most accurate herpes blood test we currently have.

Hi,

I just received a message from my doctor stating that my HSV 1 was positive. I called back and the nurse read the results to me and stated that the HSV 2 is negative should I get a copy of the report? Also do you have any idea why my two previous test showed positive and now this one test shows negative?...... it's just frustating not sure what to believe..... how accurate is WB?

You don't get numeric results with the WB - just a + or -.

your hsv2 igg's were all low positives which was why you needed the WB. they were false positives as you now know from the WB. no need for more testing for hsv2 at this point.

congrats!
