Herpes Whitlow

I was with my girlfriend about a week and a half ago, and I used my left hand to finger her, but realized a bit of the way through that I had somehow developed a small scrape on my left ring finger. I have had no symptoms on my left hand at all, but today one extremely small blister developed on my right hand about an inch back from my knuckles on the back of my hand. I went to the clinic, and the doctor said it was probably a wart, but lo and behold I was at work and it either popped or it was somehow scraped off (I do a lot of intensive work with my hands).

1) Can I have the virus pass through my left hand straight to my right hand without affecting my left?

2) Also, if this blister is so far back on my hand, is this even indicative of herpes whitlow?

3) Finally, if I have herpes whitlow, does it mean I have genital herpes in any way, shape, or form? (I have no symptoms as of yet, but I am curious if the whitlow virus can pass through my bloodstream to my genitals).

Thank you for your time!

Your gf needs to follow up on her own ends of things to find out what type she has genitally. She can't expect to make educated decisions about precautions with a partner if she doesn't even know which type she has!

whitlow hurts like a s.o.b.  it doesn't sound at all like whitlow. follow up with your provider or a dermatologist.

I'm not exactly sure what type she has, and neither is she (she said "probably 1" which is extremely useless scientifically).

I have a blood test in the works; it won't be finished until July 28th. I also went to the clinic immediately when I noticed the blister, but the doctor said it was just a wart, but it popped later. I'm currently playing phone tag for a doctor's appointment otherwise. For what I believe are lesions on my hand, if one pops, how long do I have to get it cultured?

I developed an equally tiny one, maybe tinier, further back on my hand today. It's about an inch away from my wrist. Can whitlow occur so far back? I thought it was supposed to be on the fingers alone.

A final question--could this be scabies or shingles or something else, rather than whitlow? I had chicken pox as a child, if that's even of any use in this conversation.

does she have hsv1 or hsv2?

what testing have you had done?

no, you aren't going to get herpes on your hands that easily.

If you are concerned that this has to be herpes, go and be seen today about it for best answers.

Yes she does, she's had it for about 4 years now and only ever had the first breakout. As far as I know, she's on suppressive medication.

Let's say I had a small symptom that I didn't notice on the hand I used (like I said, I haven't noticed anything on my left hand at all) and touched the back of my right hand. Would it pass that way, and create the blister so far back?

the virus won't travel to show up on the other hand that didn't touch her.

does your gf have genital herpes?
