HSV tests giving different results

I don't understand why one test was positive but my other tests are negative. Is the test that was positive even reliable? I've had many outbreaks of blisters on my lip, always same spot, crust over and heals within 10 days, my ex-husband used to break out (first) but he blamed it on an upset stomach. I'm so confused. If I'm contagious, I need to know but how do you find out for sure?

Unless there a time frame after infection when it has to be checked, and it will not be positive in other past infections you had, then I'm good!!

Apparently I do have EBV, even though I've never had exposure to mono, maybe that triggered the IgM test.

I also have an autoimmune disease, maybe that caused it. Or maybe it was from medication I took? I noticed it was bad when taking prednisone long term.

Of course I would be concerned about this. I avoided a relationship all these years. I would not want to cause someone to get a virus they could never get rid of.

Thank you for the info!!

The IgM test is so flawed in adults it must be ignored. Only IgG is of relevance.

The HSV1 test for IgG does miss about 1 in 10 infections. So there is still a chance you have it based on your description of mouth sore.

If you can consider a Westernblot test and take the result as definitive.

Even then, there is a so what factor. There is no issue assuming you have HSV1 just like 70% of the population.
