HSV2 Updated Info, NEED HELP!

Had brief unprotected vaginal intercourse 13 days ago.  NO LESIONS as of today and checking everyday.  First exposure in over a year.  Tested negative 4 months after previous exposure.  Went for full STD panel 8 days post exposure, mainly checking for ghon/chyl.  All negative, including HSV1, except for HSV2.  Came back at 2.6 ELISA igg positive.  Went for 2nd test day 11 post exposure.  Just got results, positive 3.1 igg ELISA.  Can this really be a new infection????  Everything I can find says it is impossible for antibodies to develop that fast in the body, especially with no outbreak.  Spoke to a friend who is a doctor, not for STD's, and he said body can't produce antibodies that fast.  Never had any kind of outbreak for this exposure or previously.  If I did get a false negative after previous exposure wouldn't my igg numbers be higher????  Can these igg results really be from this current exposure?  Completely confused and worried.  Please help with explaining this information.  Not sure what to think.  Could this be a false positive twice and there is something in my  body setting off the test?

Thank you to everyone that helps people to understand and deal with questions!!!

Disappointed that I did not get a response from some of the contributors on this site to my last post almost a month ago about my situation, but did want to give an update.  I got my WB results back and NEGATIVE for both HSV 1 & 2!!!  I am moving on with my life.  This has been a crazy and stressful experience.  I know that most of the time the IGG tests are accurate, but when they aren't it really can mess with people's heads.  I wish the people at the companies like STD check knew more about the low positives and likely of false positives.  All they ever said was I was positive.  Finding this site really helped me and the information about getting the WB has saved me from a lifetime of thinking I have herpes when I don't......

Quick summary with some additional information, any thoughts would be appreciated.

- Tested HSV 2 pos with 2.67 8 days after encounter.
-  2nd test 11 days post encounter 3.1 IGG
- WB Negative 17 days post encounter
- 3rd IGG 1.99 10 weeks after encounter

I have had no lesions or symptoms other than anxiety and a lot of genital focus worrying about every itch or slight tingle.

None of this is making sense.  8 days, I think is too early for pos test.  No exposures at least 8 months prior to encounter.  Neg WB.  Decreasing IGG and no symptoms if it is a primary HSV infection.  I know IGG levels fluctuate, but from a 3.1 to a 1.99,  from everything I read IGG levels would be increasing with a new infection representing new seroconversion and increasing antibody production.

Very confused and lots of anxiety

Also, did you attempt to ask the girl to take the test?  this should give you more peace of mind.

Just to confirm:
You had no symptoms.
you used stdcheck
I think yours is surely false positive/

when are you going to take the WB?

Do you think my case is negative?

Stay positive.  I am trying.  Stay in touch.  It seems all this debacle because of the IGG results!

Because of the high false number in a short period of time which was confirmed false positive by the Western Blot test.  It is just an educated guess on her part over the internet.  Not an actual diagnosis.  Still waiting to do another test at 12 weeks to confirm all is good.  The waiting is the toughest part.  Going on the internet does not help.  TOO MUCH INFORMATION.  It can drive you crazy.....

HI GD,

thank you for sharing your opinion under my post.  Why did Terri Warren thinks there is a cellular protein that is probably causing your false positive? Was it based on something you told her? Based on testing? or an educated guess?  I am hoping for that!

So far no symptoms.

Thank you

Fleetwood, does Grace still respond to posts?  I know she is kind of the expert in herpes testing.  It seems she has always been interested in the false positive testing.  I would also be interested in her opinion if a biokit would be useful for someone in my situation that has had false positive IGG tests of if WB is really the only option.  Terri Warren thinks there is a cellular protein that is probably causing my false positive results.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am going through the same issue as you are.

Please visit my post and let me know what you think.  I used the same testing service that you did.  Are you more confident that you are free from HSV 2?

i haven't seen too many studies but I suspect the majority of people will subsequently test negative at some point. Some may always test positive but be truly negative.

When someone has a false positive from the igg test at some point does it go back to negative or do they continue to have false positives because of something in their blood that sets the test off?

thanks!

With no symptoms I'd certainly be comfortable moving on.

Thanks Fleetwood!  I didn't start reading the information on this site until it was too late regarding herpes testing.  I went with the full panel at 8 days because it was a package deal.  I was really concerned with ghon/chly testing.  I know understand the issues with getting false positives.  I also knew it was too early for the WB testing, but I wanted to rule out the previous low positive at 8 days that I felt was a false positive.  I really appreciate all of the comfort and help the people on this provide.  Do you think I should get tested again at 12 weeks?  Or move on based on not having any lesions?

Let's review what you have here.

What the WB has confirmed is that the IgG testing resulted in false positives. Hence before this last sexual exposure you were clearly negative for all forms of HSV.

You are testing way to early in respect of this recent exposure. The 12 week post episode mark is required to have conclusive results.

However, you are talking about a one off sexual encounter with someone you do not know even has genital herpes. They probably do not. Further if they did, transmission rates are incredibly low per episode. Lastly, as you have no form of HSV, an infection is most likely not going to occur with no symptoms, particularly lesions.

Got the results of the WB back and they were Negative for HSV 1 and 2.  Have had no lesions of any kind and have been checking multiple times per day.  Also, no fever, sore throat or muscle aches and pains.  Not sure what is setting IGG test off, but UW virology lab said there is something in my blood that caused false positive on IGG test.  It has now been almost 9 weeks since exposure.  IGG tests were 8 days and 11 days post exposure.  WB was 17 days post exposure.  Any advice where to go from here?  Get retested?  Any idea if I will continue to be false positive by IGG testing?

You really should limit the number of threads in which you ask the same questions. Please pick one or the other and stick with it until your questions are resolved.

As advised by the clinic, an HSV Western blot test will sort out whether or not you have HSV2. I agree with Life360 (and maybe not with the STD clinic):  with 2 (or 3?)* quite high IgG values, even if not quite at the conclusive level of 3.5, the WB is likely to confirm HSV2. If it does, it will be from some distant past exposure, not the recent one.

There is no point in speculating further when a definitive answer will be available soon. Let's hold off on further discussion (in any of your threads) until your WB result is available and we'll take it from there.

* This is one reason multiple threads are a problem. Nobody wants to review several discussions in order to answer accurately.

Not sure what you mean by posting my test results.  It was ordered thru STDCheck, it was an ELISA IGG test.  HSV-1 was <.91, HSV-2 was 2.67.  All other tests were negative.

I went to STD clinic today associated with UW and Dr. Hansfield.  Ordered a WB.  Have to wait 2 weeks for results.  They are very confused.  Agreed CANNOT be from exposure 13 days ago.  With no outbreaks, no symptoms, negative test 4 months following previous single exposure and low positive below 3.5, they are not convinced it is true positive.  Even with 2nd test 3 days later they said something can be in my blood reacting to test.  Would have to wait longer to get a more accurate result.

Hi, it would be best to post your test here so we can take a look to make sure its correct but having 2 positives would be conclusive that you do have hsv2 and it would not be from the affair 8 days ago.
