HERPES

Okay so here's my story, I am a FEMALE that is 20 years old.....I need to do this because I am freaking out...in the middle of May I had gotten vey sick with Swollen Tonsils and Swollen Glands in neck. I had gotten a cold sore (sore inside mouth on left side in cheek which was white, I still don't know if this was a canker sore or Herpes, I do bite THE INSIDE OF MY CHEEKS AND LIPS) (nervous habit, i know and gross.) I believe after or during this sickness I was given antibiotics and this was Augmentin, tonsils and swollen glands went away in a few days. At the end of May I had gotten a HSV test for HSV1 and HSV2 both negative! Since the test I have had (given) unprotected oral to 2 people that I know very and have known for a while. Last unprotected oral encounter was last week. These "sores" came up yesterday on top on my lip that can be seen by the naked eye and looked white in color and red, until I popped them and removed the upper part with biting it and it is now red/pink with a little white around it and it caused them to bleed, I have 2 they are very close together in the middle of the lip but not on the perimiter of the lip literally on the lip (skin itself). I have seen online that canker sores can only be inside the mouth. Is this true? and could this be herpes? could herpes come from 6 days past exposure? I believe I have had these things happen to me already, in consistant with me biting, peeling my skin off my lips. But I am not sure if this is herpes or a canker sore? could you explain both of thm? how they look? what happens when you get one? what happens if you pop or burst each one? is a herpes sore always crusted? can a canker sore form ON TOP on the lip close to the inside but not? I am really going crazy here and need major classification... I would really like if you could answer all these questions. Thank you in advanced!

Canker sores are in the mouth, yes, and they are not caused by herpes.  Normally, if herpes is in the mouth is it accompanied for sores outside the mouth as well.  The picking inside your mouth that you do is complicating the perceptions of this situation.  Herpes sores in the mouth don't crust, they just fill in.

At some point, if you are still worrying about this, you should get another type specific antibody test.

This is about as much help as I can give you on this topic online.  I hope you can stop feeling so agitated about this situation.

thank you for helping me once again, I hope you don't mind answering these two posts because I really have no one else to ask about this....and... Thank you Doctor.....

But my tests were before these sexual experiances I had just told you....so I could have gotten it from either guy. Is what I am saying. Do you think herpes would look like this? one seems to already be going away and I am only left with tiny marks from the bleeding from biting them. I think tomorrow will be too late to get them cultured since they look like they are giong away, (they have only been there for like a little over 2 days?)  What should I do now? Any advice? No kissing? No nothing? test again? Let me know what you think.

As I said, with all honesty, I don't think these symptoms sound herpetic, and since your tests are negative, I would believe them.  You are worrying yourself without necessity now.

One thing to consider would be to have your sexual partners tested for all STDs, including herpes, prior to contact.  This would make everyone feel more secure, more clear about the risks, and just better in general about the sexual contacts.

But as for this, I would believe the clinician who saw you and the tests that you have had done.

After the tests I did recieve oral sex once, and gave oral sex twice to 2 different men. Both I know for atleast 3 years now and say they have been tested and are "negative" for everything. but who knows, you know? I had sex once unprotected sex with since the test with one of the same guys (before we had this we went to get an HIV test that was negative.) Other then that I have had protected vaginal intercourse. I do not practice unprotected vaginal sex anymore because I am a nervous wreck and am scared to death, literally of all of these things.

I appreciate your response, I know you are going out now and I hope you enjoy yourself. My "sores" are one right next to another very close to the muscous membrane but technically not inside the lip.(If I close my lips you can't see them but if I open the lower one, where they are i have to stick it out a little to see it. I do bite them and do bite my cheeks so I am assuming this is what caused it. I had also went to planned parenthood today and asked her to look at them she says they are not herpes and could be a canker sore. I keep irritating them and picking at it though. I am so nervous and I do not think I will be able to see another doctor tmw because I will be out with my family.  Please let me know what to do and please answer my questions with all honesty. Because I am freaking out like crazy. Thank you in advanced!

I have to go out to dinner right now, but wanted to give you a brief response before I went because I can see you are so worried.  These do NOT sound like herpes symptoms to me - I would believe the blood test, but remember that oral sex is really not completely safe sex, there is a little risk.  I'll write more to you later.
