igg 2.92 for hsv2 possible false positive??

Please please help! Today I got my labcorp test results for hvs1 & 2 specific. Tested neg for hsv1 but got an igg 2.92 H (0.00-0.90 index). FNP said it was positive for hsv2. I've NEVER had any symptoms or outbreaks. Could this be a false positive?? FNP examined me, no lesions to test. Now what? How can I find out for sure? Thanks.

the immunoblot has the same false positive issues as the testing you had done does. If your immunoblot comes back as +, you still have to seek out the wB to confirm.

I agree, it doesn't sound like your bf is experiencing herpes. If he is, there is certainly more than just herpes going on.

Hi Grace, thx for your reply. I got tested because my BF had developed a rash on his thighs and about 8 pimples on the shaft of his penis, about 3 weeks ago today. He was highly concerned because he had never had anything like this before. These pimples don't hurt, even when they pop and scab over. I think it is something other than hsv (like folliculitis) but he's not so convinced. Right after he got this he had an hsv2 igg specific test and it came back negative with a very low positive equival. This still didn't help to ease his mind so I went to my dr and got tested, just to set his mind at ease too and for my own peace of mind. Now I have this result and now he's really concerned. :( His pimples have healed though he said he got a few new ones that healed again in about 3 days, and he has a rash on his inner thighs, one side running all the way to his knee. I think it's jock-itch, from my own research. He went to see an FNP yesterday and she couldn't do a viral swab test on the lesions. She advised him to get retested. In the mean-time, I've gone for a 2nd opinion and the dr ordered an immunoblot (I wanted WB!). Now I'm waiting, and praying...

yes indeed this could be a false positive and it's worthwhile to seek out further confirmatory testing.

why did you get tested for herpes?

how long prior to testing had you last had sex?
