Help ME, So many ????

I was just told that I have HSV1-Genital which my Dr says I wouldve gotten from my partner through oral sex. Hearing this I asked him how this couldve happened since in 3 yrs weve been together Ive never scene her w/ a cold soar once and he said she doesnt have to have a cold soar to have it and spread it. So my first question is how common is this (oral-genital)? Ive read that around 9 in 10 people have HSV 1, is that true? Now that Ive got HSV 1 Genital how often should I expect outbreaks? Since she has HSV 1 Oral and I have it Genital can she get Genital HSV 1 through intercourse? I know she said that before we got together that her STD tests all came back negative as did my results, so could she still test negative even though she has HSV 1? Is it pretty safe to say that if you have been a sexually active adult that you have HSV 1 Oral or Genital? Could I have some how contracted HSV 1 Genital before our relationship and am now just showing signs of it? Please help me w/ these questions b/c I dont know how to tell her that I received HSV 1 Genital from her

Its hard to say if this is new or not.  The blood antibody test for HSV 1 misses 1 out of every 10 cases, so it hard to know if the test just missed it or it is really new infection.  If you did it again in 4 month, and it was now positive, then likely it is new infection.  People with genital HSV 1 have about an outbreak every other year.  If your partner has HSV 1 orally and you have it genitally, she will likely not acquire it genitally from you as she has an immune response that will greatly reduce the chances of that happening.  No, not all sexually active adult have HSV 1, about 57% of the population does by age 49

Since my Blood tests have always come up negative would this mean that this is a fresh case of HSV 1 Genital or is there no true answer? This outbreak was a few pustules on my penis and I am pretty sure this was my first outbreak since Ive never scene anything like this before and I think I would remember seeing this before. So my question is how often should I expect outbreaks if I do not take any meds and if I did take meds? Tonight at work I saw a child with a cold soar on his face and I asked her if she has ever had one and she said "yes". Now knowing this and that we have been in a committed relationship for a few yrs I think its safe to say she has HSV 1 Oral. With her having Oral HSV 1 and me having the HSV 1 Genital can I give her Genital HSV 1 through intercourse? Is it pretty safe that all sexually active adults will get HSV 1 Oral or Genital?  Since HSV 1's preferred spot is the mouth does it make the likely hood of outbreaks on the penis rare?

HSV 1 genital infection is often transmitted via oral sex (with or without a cold sore present), but can also be transmitted via genital to genital sex.  You could have gotten this from your current partner, or if you've had other sexual partners in your lifetime, you could have contracted this years ago.  There is probably no way to know at this point.  About 56% of the adult population has HSV 1, and about 17% has HSV 2.  Since you don't know that she has HSV 1  infection, it would be good if she was tested to see if you might be the only one with infection.  If that is the case, you may wish to be on daily therapy to reduce the risk of infecting here.  There is still much to be learned here, I believe.  Please feel free to ask me other questions that you might have.

My husband gave it to me after 28 years of marriage It showed as an old infection, but he can't remember EVER having any kind of sore on his mouth. He may have gotten it as a child when an aunt or someone kissed him with a cold sore on their mouth. Who knows. My husband still have never broke out, but I had a severe genital outbreak and mine showed up as a new infection, so he definately gave it to me. I have been told that my husband can't get it by intercourse since he already has the antibodies for it, but I have read on another forum where a man did get it from his wife, after he gave it to her. I don't know. You read so many different stories.
