Help with HSV Test Results!!!

Grace,
On Oct, 22, 2012 I had a brief unprotected sexual encounter, maybe 3 to 5 minutes. I didn't have any symptoms of STD's, but on November 29, I had my yearly exam and had a full exam. Results came back as following:

HSV 2 IGG <0.91 Negative
HSV 1 IGG <0.91 Negative
HSV I/II Combination 1.13 Positive

The dr. called me and told me that I had herpes I an 2 and that it was a past exposure. But I've never had any symptoms. He said that's normal and most people don't have any symptoms, but I have herpes. I'm devastated and confused. I contacted the guy, he said he didn't have have herpes. Before my encounter on October 22, I hadn't ha sex in 17 months.

A few days after the dr calls me, I get a severe lower back ache for about a week and i've been itching and burning off and on every since. And i also developed a bartholin cyst on december 18. I'm so stressed out, I'm been online nonstop researching herpes so i don't know if I'm imagining my symptoms or if it's the bartholin cyst. i've loss over 10 pounds. I'm just stressed. and on top of all of that i just loss my health insurance. Can you please tell me what you think? thank you so much.

it's doubtful you contracted herpes from the encounter in question.

No i don't think i had the hpv shot. I believe my dr said I was too old to get it. so from your expert opinion do you think i have herpes? I never had any lesions or anything. I just have this bartholin cyst now that I noticed on december 18. and after i was told i had herpes I started feeling like I had herpes with the backaches and itching and burning. The guy says he doesn't have herpes and that he gets tested. of course I didn't see his test and it was really a 3 to 5 minute encounter. i don't know if that matters with herpes. all the other stuff came back negative on my test that you mentioned.

your provider doesn't understand the testing they offered :(

your positive result - the herpes combination test is useless. your provider absolutely can't determine a single thing about your herpes status based on that test!!!

so what do you do now?  the only std testing you might've had done that would've been accurate 1 month post encounter was gonorrhea, chlamydia, ngu and trich. All other testing was done too early, including your herpes igg blood testing. You will need to repeat your syphilis, hiv ,herpes and hepatitis testing and anything that wasn't tested for initially that I discussed.  Make sure that the only herpes testing they do is the type specific herpes igg blood testing this time, no combination testing. once you get your results back, post them here and I can help you with them if either of them are positive on your repeat testing :)

since you were negative for herpes prior to your encounter, odds are if you had contracted herpes, you would've had a very noticeable ob if you did contract it from that encounter so it's not likely you really do have it but test to know your status for sure.

have you had your gardasil shots for hpv?
