Herpes, Balanitis or Group A Streptococcal

Hi there,

I have developed a few symptoms which are confusing me and looking for some guidance from the forum,

I recently had fellatio performed on me by a woman,
After a few days I encountered two very painful penile ulcers with a very distinct but foul smelling odour, this was painful and I also encountered ulcers in my mouth,

A week after this I visited a GUM clinic and was tested for all STD's including herpes, hiv, chylamdia, syphlis,  I was advised to have acyclovir and subsequently the ulcers went away(they were fading anyway by this time), so not sure if it was the acyclovir,

Also after this visit I was over zealous with hygiene and washed my penis with soap, and I noticed it becoming red and itchy subsequently,

A week after this I visited the Gum clinic again and all my previous tests came back negative, by this time my penis tip was turning red and slightly painful on touch, the doc on examination this time thought it was balanitis and advised me to take some mild steroid cream with a metronidazole tablets (2 a day for 5 days). I was tested with a swab for a bacterial infection, Also during this time I developed a sore throat ,

After a couple of days, i.e. today the doc called me and said they found me +ve for Group A Streptococcal,
Has anyone heard of this and what could possibly cause this, also does this mean I may not have herpes(the tests came negative as well). As you can see I am very confused and any guidance here would be helpful,

Hi Grace,

I have been taking a course of metronidazole(twice a day) and co-amxiclav(three times a day) and today I experienced intense back pain, lower back pain to be precise, do you think this is related and is it normal to face these side effects?

Would appreciate your input on this
Thanks
Kurt

About 6 months ago I had develope\d dry skin on fingers and thumbs, its been there for a while and I have been trying to get rid of it by using many moisturisers and hand creams, finally it looks like my GP and the GUM clinic doctor have prescribed me to use a darkot cream (steroid with anti bacterial),
It was a strange coincidence as both had prescribed this until my strep A came as +ve, so have started taking penicillin tablets as well....
Strangely I am hoping its grp A streptococcal and that I get cured for this for good.

I'm assuming since it was a gum clinic that just a lesion culture was done of your symptoms. Lesion cultures have a false negative issue but really no good way to test for hsv1 genitally except with them.  since lesions are healed, nothing else to do at this point to rule out herpes.

strep A  is not uncommon at all. typically it causes strep throat but it can cause skin infections. I assume they gave you antibiotics for it?
