Exposed to Herpes- Lost, Scared and Confused

Hello,

I am a little worried.  I just found out that my sex partner has HSV 1 and I feel that I too have it.  I am having some symptoms and have already went to my doctor and my results will be ready in about two days.  My question is...what is the real difference between HSV 1 and HSV 2?  Also...what does this mean for me?  I am only 25, not married, do not have children...I am quite worried for my future...

If you can give me some guidence as to how to go about all this and what I can do would be great.  I have done some research...but i feel like I need to talk to someone who can explain all things HSV to me and perhaps my sex partner.

Thank you so much for your time.

Hi, hsv1 is all most always oral contracted at childhood and hsv2 genital contracted from sexual activity with someone infected. If a person has one type in one area (like the mouth) they would be basicly immune to contracting in the genital area.

I got my results back. They came out positive for herpes.  As mentioned, my partner has HSV 1...so i most likely have that.  I'll be honest, i am young, not married...no kids...i do not know that things will work out in the long run with my current sex partner...if I end up not staying with him...what can i possibly do to not infect others?...i know theres no cure for herpes...but are there medication to lessen the possibility of passing the virus to another person or no?  I know I have to use condoms...but are condoms enough?...can I have oral sex unprotected, give and receive?... Pretty much, what can and can I not do sexually?...

hsv1 is way less difficult to deal with than hsv2

Okay.  Is having HSV 1 "better" or "worse" than having HSV 2?  and is HSV 1 harder or easier to contract than HSV 2?

Thank you so much for you replies.

Yes it can be contracted in both areas but only for those that dont have it oral or genital. Those that contract it in 2 places do so at the same time. If a person has it in one area, they are basicly immune to contracting in another.

Hello Life360,

I have yet to get my results.  I called and they will be ready by tomorrow.  As mentioned, my sex partner has HSV 1...we did have oral sex and unprotected vaginal sex.  I am showing no symptoms in or around my mouth....however, I am showing slight symptoms in the genital area. Mild symptoms, but they are there.  I am also have fevers, headaches etc.  If HSV 1 is contracted orally, is it possible to get HSV 1 in the genitals? Also, can I pass HSV 1 to another person through the genitals also?...in that case, wouldn't HSV 1 also be HSV 2 since it is in the genital area?...i am so confused.  Thank you so much replying to me.  Your reply means a lot.

Thank you,
