Herpes Igg Negative Results

Hi,
I got tested for herpes II. I have never had any symptoms.
However I have cold sores since I was a child.

I have been with the same partner for 6 years and I know for sure he never had an std.

I got my results and it read igg negative igm positive.
Can someone please tell me what this means?

I am freaking out!! Please help me.

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394  is a prior post by HHH that explains better why the igm test isn't worthwhile and why it shouldn't be done.

Encourage your provider to order the herpes blood testing toolkit by asha - it's under $3.  http://www.ashastdwebstore.org/herpes-testing-toolkit.html   it'll help them better understand testing fo rherpes.

I should have added the sentence:
If your Igg is negative that means you are negative.

I just had a talk with a very prominent Infectious desease professor.  He said Igm test is useless and should not even be performed because there are so many other antibodies that can be confused with Herpes in that test.  Furthermore he stated that many medical professionals mistakingly think an Igm positive means recent infection but in reality Igm means nothing and is out of date and Doctors need to update their education regarding Herpes.

As it was explained to me: Dr's do have more important things to worry about like Heart desease and cancers and herpes just isn't that big of a deal.

Did it show Positive for HSV1 or HSV2?

Even though it is positive doesn't necessarily mean you have Genital Herpes.. it would be testing positive cause you have had Cold Sores as a child..
