Herpes Simplex II

Two Questions:

Can a female get Herpes Simplex II if a CARRIER of Herpes II GIVES HER oral sex?

My bf slept with a girl for 3 years who had Herpes II.  He states he has never had any symptoms and they did not have sex when she had outbreaks.  What is the risk of him being a CARRIER with no symptoms? High risk, I would assume?

I used a condom when we have sex because I am unsure if he can transmit the disease to me through his sperm. I suspect he is a CARRIER because he did not protect himself those 3 years even though they had sex when she did not have an outbreak.  Thanks for responding!

You know I don't get way people use the word carrier its like saying all they have is herpes and no outbreaks or anything.  No need to really type caps on the word carrier.

If you avoid sexual contact during anything genital going on the risk is about 96% per year you won't get herpes.  If the girl was on daily suppresive therapy and the same applies of avoiding sexual contact during an outbreak the risk goes to 98% per year you won't get herpes.  Using a condom doesn't protect much in herpes only about 30% as the only part protected is the mans penis but there is a lot of other parts of the body that aren't protected and that is the part that can lead to transmission.

Instead of guessing if he has herpes or not how about you both go to a doctor and have a type specific igg blood test done.  Most people with HSV-2 genitally have outbreaks a few a year.  HSV-1 gential is a different story.

If the person has HSV-2 genitally and they give you oral sex you have no risk.  HSV-2 infect the oral area but it is rare so not much risk to even worry about there.  As I said though you don't know who has what.  Make a date for STD testing and request a type specific hsv igg test.

once you both get tested, if you need help with your blood test results, I can help you with those too.
