Yes, I would consider your results conclusive since your partner also tested negative when you started having sex. No need to retest at all.
Terri
Just a follow up for you, I got my herpes testing done. It was done with the Herpeselect test for I & II, and they both came back negative, although I don't want the numerical values, the doctor just told me over the phone. I read on here that you prefer that people wait until about 4 months after exposure for conclusive results. Since my status was "unknown" if I ever had an exposure, and I was negative going into the relationship...would you consider my results conclusive?...or should I retest again in a couple months?
Thank you for your expert advice! Have a great holiday!
You could talk to your doctor, but be certain to describe you previous testing situations.
Women do get pimples or cysts from time to time in the genital area, and I'm not clear that there are ways to reduce the frequency of getting those.
Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection only, either through receiving oral sex, intercourse (vaginal or anal).
Terri
Thanks for your advice, I'll follow your suggestion and expertise and not worry about it. Should I still talk to my doctor about it anyway?
Also, how common are vaginal pimples on the wet vaginal skin? How can they be prevented? Are there means of contracting herpes through other channels besides sexual contact (both oral and vaginal sex)?
If you were both negative when you started the relationship, and you trust the monogamy of your partner, then there is no need to be retested. And besides, this doesn't really sound like herpes to me.
Terri
Thank you for your reply! We were both tested before we entered into a sexual relationship with each other and we were both negative. I have had no reason to suspect herpes until I went searching on the internet for information about vaginal pimples, and then all of this information popped up about herpes. If, in your opinion, you feel this was nothing more than a random pimple, then I will not worry about it. It never became an ulcer, just looked like dark pink skin underneath which was tender for less than a day. Should I get tested anyway and still consult my doctor? Are actual vaginal pimples common, and if so, what causes them to develop?
I think this is most likely a small cyst or a pimple as you describe. If it popped, and went away, that also doesn't sound like herpes. Herpes usually doesn't have a pimple-like head, rather, herpes is usually a water blister-like lesions, that becomes a ulcerative lesion.
Has your partner been tested for herpes? If he is also negative, and you have tested negative in the past, and you two are monogamous, then you have no worries. Do you know about his herpes testing past?
