Accuracy of Blood Test

How accurate is the blood test in detecting herpes? Is there a high chance of false positive?

Your blood test results, taken only a few hours after the incident, reflect your status PRIOR to the encounter.  Your blood test shows that you are hsv1 + and hsv2 + both.  Your hsv2 igg is still within the false positive range so further testing is needed but at this point I encourage you to wait and just repeat the igg blood test in 4 months and see what your hsv2 igg is then.  Have you ever been tested for herpes before that you know of? Until proven otherwise, I"d assume you had hsv2 and never knew it until now.

Ok, Im taking you up on the offer for help, even though Im new here. I just got diagnosed, buuut, I went and got the test literally hours after the incident of possible infection. So I don't know how that affects the results, and accuracy. I am also away form home living in costa rica, and Im slightly pissed the doctors didn't tell me I needed to wait a few week before testing, it cost me several hundred dollars, because there are no free clinics or plannedparenthoods here. Anyways here are my results

HSV-1 IgM 7.9 U/ml Negative
HSV-1 IgG 4.1 U/ml Neg
HSV-2 IgM 20.3 U/ml Positive
HSV-2 IgG 3.0 U/ml Neg

I am getting over a cold, if that has an effect on my number of anti viral, I am also under a great deal of stress. Also I have done some readings, and Dr Huntington on this sight said that IgG is much more accurate the IgM, IgM can often give false positive. Since mine is so borderline (even the Dr. laughed when he read it, freaked me out)  what does that mean in the bigger picture. I don't know if any of my tests contain any validity, because I did them so early. Im really worried, I had unprotected oral sex, with a brief slip in penetration, and penile vaginal contact, but all that is more then enough. This is never something I have done before, I was drunk for my third time ever, and well. Thats never happening again.

Let me know what you think, and Thank you so much for your help,
Laurel

www.herpesdiagnosis.com is a terrific website to read more about the herpes blood tests at.

we can help you with your blood test results if you post them here - ie hsv1 igg 3. 6 and hsv2 igg 2. 9 or whatever they are.
