Igg results and time taken

I had sex with someone who later told me they had herpes.  They said they had genital herpes and did not go into too much detail.  They "swore" I was safe, because we used protection.  This was November 5-7 2011.  In the first week of December, 2011, I started having symptoms.  I waited until early Jan., this year to see a Dr.  By then all noticeable symptoms were gone.  She told me to have a blood test done.  I had the IGg done and both HSV tests came back negative.  I was told by the Dr. that since this was close to 6 weeks from the outbreak I had, the test was conclusive and I do not need another one, especially since both test came back >.2.  He, it was another Dr. I saw for the results, said that since it was over two months from the initial contact this also means my test is conclusive.  Unfort.  I have gone to the internet and I am reading that if you suspect an outbreak, you should wait at least 10 weeks or more from the outbreak to be tested.  Please help unconfue me.  Believe me, I want to just accept my test results and be done with this!! Thanks....

You should wait 3-4 months since last exposure to get accurate results with the herpes igg test.

What outbreak did you experience? Didn't they swab it for herpes?

Well I think the best advice is really from the Drs. and I am telling everyone to do this.  Going on the internet will drive you batty!!! I was told my results are conclusive, and waiting 3-4 months is ridiculous!!  Sorry, don't know who you are, are you a Dr?  I only wanted advice from a professional, anyone else can say anything they like.

this is the patient to patient forum.  What that means is explained in the information located under the tabs on the top of the forum.

About 2/3's of folks test accurately at the 6 weeks post encounter point which is why it's recommended that you wait at least 3 months before testing which is when most people have seroconverted and will test accurately. we don't make these recommendations up and honestly, we are far more knowledgeable here than most medical providers are.

you had symptoms that you were not seen promptly for to get a proper diagnosis so it's well worth following up with repeat igg testing later on to properly cover your bases.  Did you also test for other std's too?
