Herpes Negative

My boyfriend had woken 1 morning to find small blister on one side of the head of the penis and a lesion under the penis. We both went to be tested for Herpes. We had unprotected sex for 2 wks when he experienced a outbreak after 2wks. I had blood work done and came back positive and he had a culture that came back negative and had to go back for blood work and the STD clinic told him if he did not hear back from them that his blood work came back negative also. He has not heard from them and refuse to call them. He had no itching nor pain with this outbreak. Is it possible that the test could be false and that he should go back in 3 months and have another test done. I do not understand how he has a outbreak and i do not but i'm posistive and he is not.

The numbers can point where the test value was at.  Knowing these numbers helps grace get an idea to tell you your next move.  Is the test result out of a false-positive range or what. Its just us trying to give you the best possible info.

No.  There is no way to tell how long someone has had the infection.  The numbers really don't mean length of time the body has the infection.  Each person's immune system is different.

Did you get your BF's numbers to post?

If someone has a higher reading does that indicate that they might be the one who carried it 1st?

is that just your hsv2 igg?  if so, it's a low positive and needs further confirmatory testing done.

You also have the option of have your bf call the clinic monday to specifically ask what his test results were. if they were negative for hsv2, he can wait and if he gets another genital lesion, be seen within 48 hours of its appearance for a lesion culture and typing. If it's +, I"d assume your hsv2 igg really is truly positive. If he doesn't get another lesion within the next 3 months, he can repeat his hsv2 igg blood testing at that time and see what it shows. If he's still negative for hsv2 in 3 months, then you'd need a herpes WB blood test done to confirm your status.  If your bf 's blood test results were + for hsv2, check back here for more suggestions.

when you say your blood work came back positive, do you recall what the results were? If not, call and ask them to read them to you to post here. All I need are the numeric results - ie hsv 1 igg 2.6 and hsv2 igg 6.5 or whatever they are. I can better help you once I see that info.

Lesion cultures have a very high false negative rate. Your bf needs to call and get his test results. Never assume when they say that they'll call if they are + means they will really call. Too easy for paper work to get lost on a desk and never dealt with in a timely manner.
