HSV Transmission to Hand via Open Cut

My ex-boyfriend is HSV-1 & 2 positive, but has only experienced outbreaks in the oral area. During our relationship we were careful to avoid contact during outbreaks and about 12-14 weeks after we ended our physical relationship I tested negative for both HSV-1 and 2 via the HerpeSelect test.

Recently, we were together again and I gave a handjob, realizing later that I had 2 cuts on my hands that opened while rubbing on his genital skin.  They are very raw (from gardening blisters). According to his own account, which I have no reason to doubt, he has never had lesions on his genitals, and he certainly did not at the time of this encounter.

Is this last encounter risky enough that I should be re-tested for HSV? Should I avoid touching my own genital, eye or oral area? What are the chances, if any, that I have contracted HSV through the cuts on my hand? If I did have herpes on my hand, would I see symptoms soon, or can it also be asymptomatic?

Thanks for any advice.

Thank you! I just want to be super-careful so that I can tell future partners that I am sure of my hsv-status without any doubt. My former partner was open and honest from the beginning and that was absolutely wonderful.

You would see symptoms, and if he didn't have lesions, I wouldn't worry about this.
