Herpes diagnosis

About 3 years ago I had symptoms that seemed like HSV-2: high fever accompanied by a few small sores on my vaginal area. I saw my doctor who said it "looked like herpes" and tested me with a genital culture and blood test, however at that time both came back negative. I have never had another known outbreak, and have been blood tested twice in the last 2 years for HSV 1 & 2/IgG and IgM and have always had negative results. I'm frustrated because my doctor says "well it looked like herpes, so you have to assume you have it" even though all my blood tests have been negative and I have not had outbreaks. I struggle with this when I date new people as I don't want to go through the stress of telling them if I don't actually have it. What would you say, is it possible to have herpes and spread it to partners, even with mulitple negative blood tests?

I'm in the same boat as you. I've had multiple Herpes blood test done (one test in the last month) and they all have come back negative. The test I had checked for HSV 1 and 2 antibodies. I'm 27 now and this started when I was 13 (so if there are no antibodies there never will be)...  everything about it points to herpes but the blood tests say "NO". I understand exactly what you are going through, I also understand the psychological stress as well. Unfortunately I can't tell you more because I'm unsure myself. The best advice I can give you is to keep seeking until you find out what it is and be honest with the person you're dating. Tell them what's going on with you. visual diagnosis's are wrong about a 1/3 of the time even in fairly experienced practioners.  At this point it's not likely that you have genital herpes. If you really feel like you need to put this to rest I'd get a herpes WB blood test and see what it says. I personally would feel pretty comfortable with 3 negative blood tests and no reoccurence of symptoms but it's up to you.

Ummm, You have had negative tests all along so you do NOT have herpes!!!!!! Just because a Dr. says it looks like herpes doesn't mean it is. Dr's. see millions of patients everyday with things that look like something they are familiar with only to come back as something else. You do NOT have it so I think you should put it all behind you now and go see someone if you are unable to.
