Possible Negative

The Doctor swabbed my lesion and was confirmed as HSV2 is it possible that, that may have been wrong and instead been folliculitis or something else?
If for example I did a blood test in 8 months and it appeared negative what would that mean?
I had no other symptoms.

I have a feeling my ex girlfriend gave it to me after we had anal.

The whole situation of a first noted single sore in that location swabbing positive for HSV2 is quite unusual. It would almost certainly suggest a recurrent outbreak and thus you've had the virus for some time.

Further confirmation would be good. Where are you? I recommend getting a blood test right now, IgG type specific for HSV1 and HSV2.

Currently in London, UK - Apparently it's not something that comes with the standard STD testing.

I would get a copy of the results. It is very unlikely that the result is wrong. The swab may not have been typed though and assumed to be HSV2.

If it was one lesion only, then there is the real possibility you have been infected for quite a period of time.

How long after your last sexual exposure did the sore appear?
