Herpes Worried Sick

Hello, thanks for what you do on this site.  In mid to late November I had unprotected sex with a female partner. We only had sex one time.  I havent had any noticable symptoms in my genital region.  This person is the last sexual partner I have had.  I heard yesterday from a friend that she might have herpes.  I have an appointment for blood testing scheduled for tomorrow. I am just worried sick that she might have herpes and that I may have gotten it from her. What are the chances I did get it from her if she has it?  Would I have noticed anything being it is 3 months later? Any information you can give would be helpful at this point.

Thanks

The chances you were infected by her are low if she was not having an outbreak at the time.  Nonetheless, you would have probably experienced painful blisters in your genital region had you been infected.  In the absence of symptoms I wouldn't even get tested if I were you, but that's your call.

since you had unprotected sex with someone whose std status you aren't aware of, you really should cover the bases with full std testing. That means chlamydia, ,gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes , hiv and hepatitis.

have you had your gardasil shots?

we recommend protected sex because it works - if your pants are off, a condom should be worn so that you don't have to worry so much, saves yourself frequent testing as well as protects yourself.

I had blood drawn yesterday.  Can i be somewhat sure that after 3 months that the blood work would show results for HSV-2?  Also, i have read on here that the odds from a female to male is about 4% thru out a years time. Any truth to this?  I dont believe I have had Gardisal shots before.  Trust me I will never go without protection again in my life. Just trying to calm my nerves over this.  Thanks

yes, blood tests for herpes are accurate 3-4 months after exposure.
