Herpes or Jock Itch

Three weeks ago I had protected sex with a high risk female (she briefly kissed my penis before I told her to put the condom on). About 24-30 hours later, I had itching in the groin area, near the testicles but not on my testicles. Now this isn't new and I've experienced this plenty of times before soon after sex (last episode was maybe 3 years ago). The itching got worse and I went to urgent care to have them look at it. They didn't see anything and gave me a cream that I've used before to control the itching. Well, three weeks later, the itching is still there and I've had random bumps show up. One was near my knee, mid-thigh, and on my hip, and one showed up today near my belly button. They are just a single bump, and don't itch unless I touch it. The bumps on my leg have a small scab, but I have been picking at them, and one I even popped like a zit. What is your take on all of this? Thanks in advance

Nope, it doesn't but I'm far away and and exam will be best.

This will be my last post on this thread.

No, no new thoughts.  An exam will provide you with your best evaluation.

Hi Terri, I have a follow up appointment with my dr on Monday, but I'm still experiencing itching in the genital area, and this is really concerning me. The Keetocolanzol didn't work, so now I'm using cortaid to the area and taking Terbinafine HCL once a day (per my drs orders). Every now and then I'll see a new bump on my leg/knee area, but that's it, nothing in the gential area. I thought I saw a bunch of white bumps, but they were just hair folicles I believe. Any insight?

I"m so glad that your doctor felt that you only had a fungal infection.  If you have other problems with the bumps, please go in right away if they show up again.

I saw my general dr, he said the itching and the bumps aren't related, he wasn't worried about the bumps, Because I didn't have any "fresh" bumps, it was hard for him to make a diagnosis, but he positively said my symptoms don't sound like any STD he has seen in his experience. He gave me a prescription for an fungus medicine, they are pills so maybe that will help. I go back in two weeks, so I'll give an update.

To Metalgear, thanks for trying to scare me, but in reading your other posts, you said you have blisters, which I don't have, and my bumps don't hurt. Also, I had condom protected sex, so I'm not sure why I need an HIV test.

Your symptoms don't sound anything like HPV.  I hope your doctor will run out scabies, and possibly will treat you for it with a benign medicine that should help with the itching as well, even if it isn't scabies.  Let me know!

I had unprotected sex with someone I knew for over 7 years. After least 36 hours I had sex with her I too begin itching all over my body and especially around my jock area. after about 2 weeks the itching went away and small red bumps appeard on my right and left leg. I know a few people who have herpes and my symptom look exactly like theirs. I highly doubt if you have HPV for most men don't show any symptoms and plus their is no way to test for it in men. The good news with some cases with HPV is goes away on its own in time. You may or may not have herpes but the only way to know is to get tested for it. Its best to get a hiv test while your at the clinic as well.

Thanks Terri, I have an appointment with my general dr tomorrow, it's puzzling on why the itching won't go away and what these random red bumps that show up from my knee to my belly, but skip my genital area (which isn't a bad thing of course). Any suggestions on how to handle the itching, the ketoconazole doesn't appear to be helping too much, I tried gold bond and that burned

No, I'm here, I think my message notification system isn't working right now though.

herpes blisters can look like small water blisters and they are often on the shaft of the penis.  They can be singular or in groups and they can be very small or larger.

Your bumps don't sound anything like herpes to me, and you wouldn't have symptoms in your neck normally from genital herpes.  Have you had someone look specifically at these bumps that you are having?  If not, I think you should, if only for reassurance.

Are you still accepting questions or is this thread closed? Overnight, a couple of more pimples showed up, one near my knee, one on my hip bone, and some in the thigh area. They are just a red bump, with a white head. They don't itch or anything unless I rub up against them or touch it

Quick update, i've had a few more bumps show up on my legs (3 total), similar to the other ones, mostly on the lower thigh. I'm really confused about what these bumps are and the timing of them is what concerns me

I might have these types of bumps before, I really don't know, ever since that encounter, I've been paying more attention to my body. Is it common to have bumps on various parts of your body if it's herpes? The dr at urgent care didn't say anything about scabies, but at the time, there were no bumps, they just appeared last week. They said it was jock itch or just a fungal infection.

If you don't mind, I have two quick questions. First, what exactly does a herpes blister look like, I've never had a blister, and are they usually centered around the penis/genitals. Second, since Saturday, I've had some discomfort on my neck, around the lymph nodes, is that a sign of a upcoming herpes outbreak. Thanks for everything

My take is that you had a very low risk encounter.  Any subsequent symptoms from the encounter would be highly unlikely to be related to an STD.  Also, the itching that you experienced just about a day later would be very unlikely to be herpes because it takes longer than that to develop symptoms.  The fact that the urgent care folks didn't see anything upon exam is also very helpful.  These bumps - do you think you've ever had anything like them before?  Most people do get a few random bumps on their skin, particularly men.  Are they distinctly different than something you've had in the past?  Did the people at urgent care say anything about scabies?  I actually think one day is too early for scabies to show up as well, but these symptoms don't sound herpetic to me, at all.
