Help in diagnosis- Blood results & unidentified lesion

Hello,

I'd like to thank medhelp.org for creating this website and all of the members who utilize to help others.

My story- 23 yr old male, 2 months ago broke up with- had last sexual encounter with ex gf. dated 10 months.  first real gf with unprotected sex. used condoms previous gf's exclusively.  gf admitted to having hpv a a few years back but says it went away.

About a month after of breakup I noticed a painless, slightly raised, but small unidentified lesion on tip of penis.  I was paranoid so I went to the doctor.  Ran blood work at quest diagnostics and heres the results.

HSV 1/2 IGG, Herpeselect Type AB

Herpes Simplex Type 1    > 5.00 H  ( out of range)
Herpes Simplex Type 2   .08           ( In range)

HSV 1/2 IGM AB, IFA (serum)

HSV 1 IGM, IFA            < 1:20 (in range)
HSV 2 IGM, IFA            1:20 H ( out of range)

Reference range
or = to 1:20 Antibody detected

Doctor said borderline and possible type 2 herpes.  That's all.  I went back in to collect copy of blood results, doctor was not very helpful in explaining results and she said that I was a paranoid nervous nilly and essentially threw me out of the office saying I was fine. Doctor said see a urlogist for more in-depth answers.

So I did, he looked at it and said I don't know what the lession is, and another small wart like scar that came up about the same time as unidentified lesion but i didn't worry about this one because it healed up and scared pretty quick.    Urologist said see a dermatologist or a infectious disease doctor and I'm not going to re-run bloodwork because its pointless, if you have it you have it.  wait and see if you get another outbreak.  What the hell!!! is this an outbreak?  he said in his opinion i have it after looking at blood results.

So I'm stuck here researching the virus and trying to determine if this unidentified lesion on my penis is my first outbreak ( only 1 lesion and is not painful) or is something else such as a genital wart ( possibly caught hpv from ex gf) or something else. Regardless what the lesion is and what the scar was, its possible it has no relation to such herpes and its a coincidence or it is/was my first "outbreak".

Please help me sort through these blood results and my symptoms.

Thank you

Sincerely

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/248394  this is a prior post that HHH goes into great detail as to why the igm herpes blood test should never be drawn.

So sorry to hear that you've received the run around from your providers so far :(  As Jess already mentioned - at this point you'll just have to wait and repeat your hsv2 igg blood test 4 months after the last encounter.  If you should happen to get a fresh crop of lesions before then, a lesion culture and typing would be helpful.

Most folks are not getting tested for std's routinely which is why covering all the std bases is never a bad idea.  Many women even mistakenly think that if you go for your yearly visit and pap test that that's getting tested for std's and it's not.  At this point I recommend the full std screening and if you are still worried about a lesion on the penis, a dermatologist. If the lesion on the penis has been there for more than 2-3 weeks though it's probably not herpes.

First I would suggest you find a better doctor. Yes you should have been checked for all stds including syphilis. Is there a sexual health clinic in your area? Go to them and have all of the tests done....

Forget all about the results from IGM test not reliable. If you'd like to confirm the HSV test results I would have the Western Blot test done for HSV its the gold standard.

How long has it been since your last sexual exposure?

so IGG maters- whats with IGM opposite of IGG?  any easy way of explaining why theres two separate test that are contradicting each other?

Were you tested for syphilis?

No test included chlamydia, gonorrhea, and herpes.  why didn't my test include syphilis?  something I need to be checked for?

thanks

You clearly have hsv1, and your IgG (the only test that matters) is negative.  You might want to retest for hsv2 at about 4-6 months from your last exposure.

Were you tested for syphilis?
