Herpes worried!

I have had HSV 1&2 for a while without an outbreak in 2 years, didn’t worry much about it then.
On the 15th Jul 08 had a penile yeast infection, was treated with fluconazole 150 and Lotrisone cream, couple of recurrences/treatments later it seemed to have gone away leaving the area very sensitive.
On the 20th of Aug 08 had unprotected receptive oral sex with a female I don’t know, on the 27th. of Aug 08 had unprotected receptive oral sex with the female who gave me the HSV2, I also was -unusually- very stressed at that time.
On the 12th of Sep 09 had a major illness (unusual flu like symptoms, fever, thrush… ), looked up symptoms, was very depressed/scared of having possibly contracted HIV, did multiple rapid lab test –USAID approved; “Determine”-, despite the negative results after over 6 month from possible exposure, I’m still unable to shake off the stress and depression.
On the 23rd of Sep 08, had my first GHSVs outbreak in two years, than another on the 1st of Feb 09, than another on the 28th of Feb 09 than another on the 6th of Apr 09 and the last on being on the 16th of May 09, recently noticed that they always came with an upset stomach, treated every outbreak with Valtrex twice a day for three days, seemed to work well.
The last couple of outbreaks came in different shapes (a round cluster of blisters vs only one) in slightly different location (the bottom of the glans vs the top..)
My general health is OK, though I still have the same amount of thrush on my tongue.
I’m continuously very worried about my health; HIV and Herpes complications…
1) Aren’t outbreaks supposed to get lesser as time passes?
2) Is it normal for the outbreaks to change in shape, location and frequency?
3) Is it possible that I caught another HSV2 or strain?
4) Have had slightly irritated eyes, can this be part of herpes complications?
5) Can HIV cause more recurrent outbreaks like this?
6) Can repeated masturbation cause more outbreaks?
Carlos.

Good day Ms Warren.

Many thanks for your kind reply and sorry about the straight forward questions, original exceeded the maximum word count.

Please forgive my ignorance in this regard.

1) Are there trends to the frequency, meaning, as it is happening more often, it will increase in frequency still?
2) Can stress be a factor in increasing its recurrences?
3) What I meant with the eye irritation was, the possible eye herpes?
4) Yes all of my 5 HIV tests within/and pass 6 month of possible exposure are negative, was wondering if these outbreaks are reason to pursue deferent methods of testing?
5) Reasons I didn’t consider daily therapy –please correct me where wrong-:
A) Obviously, because I didn’t get them often then.
B) I have borderline H. Blood Pressure, kidney stones, some protein in the urine and a father with kidney failure –at the age of 73-, am already taking one Crestor 10mg/day for my high cholesterol, not sure it is wise to take any more daily meds?
C) The cost is another factor too, where I live 6 Valtrex 500 cost almost US$ 35.00.
6) Yes Dr., years ago I did the HSV 1&2 test, results; positive so I assume it is Herpes, as it looks and feels like the original and react to the Valtrex accordingly, should I still do the swab test?
7) If it gets worst, and I’m forced to do the daily therapy;
   A) Would it decrease the frequency and possibly stop the outbreaks all together?
   B) If I decide to stop the daily therapy for some reason, would it return and       become more severe?

8) What are the chances and when does HSV 1&2 lead to serious complications please?
9) Can an infected person live his/her life normally without HSV complications or is it a must that we will eventually be troubled by them?

Again Ms Warren, please bear with me as I’m very concerned and no one else –especially where I live- can answer my questions better.

Thanks and kindest regards,
Carlos.

1.  Most people get fewer outbreaks with time, but some have the same amount and a few have more.
2.  It is normal to change location, shape, etc, yes
3.  No, I don't believe you have contracted another strain of herpes.
4.  I don't believe that slightly irritated eyes is a symptom of herpes
5.  HIV can cause more frequent outbreaks, yes, but all of your HIV tests, have been negative, right?
6.  Repeated masturbation doesn't necessarilycause more outbreaks, but I suppose that is possible.  Friction can be the cause of outbreaks in some people associated with sex, so masturbation could be the cause.

Have you considered daily therapy?  I think you are a good candidate.  Also, are you certain that these are really herpes outbreaks? If they look quite different, it kind of makes me wonder.  You may wish to consider getting these swabbed for herpes to be sure that these are actually herpes outbreaks.
