Herpes?

Dr.Hansfield,  I am writing you because I'm concerned about herpes. I am a bi-sexual male that has enganged in unprotected oral sex, protected anal (top and bottom).  I am know to have prior skin problems with exzema and dry chapped skin, particularily in the anal area.  Years ago I went to see a dermatologist about chronic itching in my anal area and red skin.  The diagnosis was dry/chapped skin and to make sure I keep the area clean and dry as possible.  Just today I noticed the area between the scrotum and the anus was a bit painful, so I checked it with my hand and felt some bumps down there.  Is it possible to get hsv 2 there?  Can I get hsv 2 from protected anal sex?  Could I have contracted it from someones mouth?  Can you get HSV 2 from oral sex?  If i do have have HSV 2 could I have given it to someone who performed oral on me?  What else could this be if its not HSV 2?  I have had multiple male sex partners but was always safe with anal sex.  Oh my,  I'm really worried.

Your help is appreciated....thank you.

azboy722,  You have HSV 1 but not HSV 2?  Have you been tested for HSV 2?  From what I understand is that HSV 1 there are few to little outbreaks in the genitals.  How often do you get your out breaks?

Thank you all for your thoughts.  My hopes is that its folliculitis, only testing will verify it.

I had the exact same scenario as you have described happen to me and I also am a Bi male who always has protected sex when I have sex...
I have been diagnosed with hsv-1 and occasionally have outbreaks exactly as you have described and around the anus maybe 6 or 7 bumps per outbreak which last a week or 2. But I would almost bet money that you do have herpes.
It's not the end of the world though just a minor inconvinience sometimes  and best of all your not gonna die from it so dont worry unfortunately it's just part of life for someone sexually active.

I think you might need to post this in the expert forum for a fee.

I don't know much about herpes, but I think 1 is mouth 2 is genitals - mostly. The area you are talking about does get infected, but it may or may not be herpes. If it was diagnosed chapped, it probably is... but only actual sample testing can be certain.
